M/s Budwa Minerals, Executive Summary Village-Budwa, Tehsil-Beohari Dist. Shahdol 26.210ha Sathni Laterite, Ochre & White (MP) Clay Mine EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1. PREAMBLE Minerals are the chief source of present phase of industrialization, and play an important role in the present phase of the national economy and overall development of the nation. India is endowed with significant mineral resources. India produces 89 minerals out of which 4 are fuel minerals, 11 metallic, 52 non- metallic and 22 minor minerals. Laterite, Ochre & White Clay Mining project is located at village – Sathni, Tahsil Beohari; Shahdol District (MP). 26.210 Ha mining lease area is being operated by the lessee firm M/s Budwa Minerals, having Reg. office at Budwa PO Deolon, Tehsil- Beohari Dist. Shahdol (MP) and lessee firm is proprietary firm which is register under firm act, 1932 & Shri Kuwarendra Singh is proprietor. The fresh lease was grant for Ochre, White Clay & Laterite for 30 years from 10.10.2008 to 09.10.2038. Land use of the mine is partly govt. waste land and partly private agriculture land. In order to assess the likely impacts on environment due to the mining activities being carried out in the Laterite, Ochre & White Clay Mining lease area of 26.210Ha, M/s Budwa Minerals has entrusted this task to M/s Creative Enviro Services, Bhopal to carry out the Rapid Environmental Impact Assessment study of the mining lease area and based on the same to suggest an Environment Management Plan (EMP) and a Disaster Management Plan.. 2. REASON FOR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EIA) The impact of mine on the environment depends to a large extent on its location with respect to Human settlements, meteorological conditions, ambient air quality, water bodies, agricultural and forest land etc. Most of the adverse impacts of mines are amenable to technological control by providing necessary preventive and control measures and Ex. Shahdol 26.210ha Sathni Laterite, Ochre & White (MP) Clay Mine finally through effective environmental management of the operating mines. Keeping in view the likely impacts of mines on environment, this Rapid environment impact assessment report has been prepared for submission to State Pollution Control Board and Ministry for Environment and Forests (MoEF) for clearance of the proposed mining area. 6. Therefore, life of the mine will be 676553 Tonnes/1800 Tonnes = 376years 6.2 Mining Method Proposed mining operation will be carried out by manual method of mining using hand tools such as spades, hammer, crowbar, chisel etc. Loading of mineral in to truck/ dumper will be done manually by head load using can basket and tasla etc. The overburden, face clearing and removal of mine debris will be done by manual means. Winning of ore will be done manually with hand tools like sledge, hammers, chisels, spades and crowbars. The haul road has been extended up to the bottom of the quarries. The mineral will be loading into the trucks and tractors will be done manually. During the five year haulage road will be developed at the gradient of 1:16. Ex. Shahdol 26.210ha Sathni Laterite, Ochre & White (MP) Clay Mine Proposed mining will be carried out for white clay yellow ochre and Laterite by opencast manual mining method, using hand tools such as spades, hammer, crowbar, chisel etc. as the laterite, ochre & white clay is soft in nature hence need for explosive will not require. Thus proposed mining will be carried out without use of explosive. Mine waste generated during the proposed mining will be placed in the form of one dump for each year in southern barrier zone. Top soil generated during the proposed mining will be placed in the form of one dump for each year in western barrier zone. Depth persistence of mineral is anticipated. Therefore, Proposal of reclamation is not given. Year wise development/ production for the first five years for laterite: - Year Soil OB Waste Prod. (t.)
