MD229 Introduction The St Quintin of Harpham collection was given to the YAS in 1944 by Col. E S L'Estrange Malone of Scampston. The collection includes a large number of medieval deeds and other material, abstracts of which were published in Transactions of the East Riding Antiquarian Society Vol 21 (1914) pp 25 - 69, and early wills, transcribed in full in the same volume pp 70 - 79. In this list the numbering of items 1 - 139 follows the published numbering and the descriptions are shortened versions of the published abstracts. The published wills and some unpublished documents were given numbers at the time of receipt by the YAS and these have also been preserved (items 140 - 152).. Items numbered from 153 onwards were previously unnumbered and unlisted. They consist mainly of later Yorkshire material and a number of 16 - 18 century leases and deeds relating to property in London. The St Quintin family was related by marriage to the Lacy family of Folkton and to the Chitty family. There is an account of the St Quintin family and references to further sources of information in the Victoria County History: Yorkshire, East Riding Vol. 2 (1974) pp 223 - 228 Further papers are at Hull University, Brynmor Jones Library.
