Ahmad Bashah to Take Advice from Mukhriz Provided.Pdf Ahmad Bashah to Take Advice from Mukhriz Provided Bernama Feb 5, 2016 By Kamarul Ariffin Md Yassin ALOR SETAR, Feb 5 (Bernama) -- New Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said he would take advice from Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir provided it is in line with the policy of the top leadership. He said Mukhriz was still the chairman of the Kedah UMNO Liaison Committee and he himself was the deputy chairman. "He (Mukhriz) is the chairman and I, as the deputy chairman, will have to take his advice so long as it is in line with the policy of the top leadership," he told Bernama in an interview. Ahmad Bashah took his oath of office as the 12th menteri besar of Kedah yesterday, replacing Mukhriz who resigned a day earlier citing loss of majority support in the state legislative assembly. Mukhriz, when announcing his resignation as the menteri besar, said he would leave it to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to decide on his position as the chairman of the state UMNO liaison committee. Ahmad Bashah said he realised that the recent political crisis in Kedah had caused a rift among UMNO and Barisan Nasional supporters in the state, but expressed optimism that the problem would be resolved. "I am convinced that this solidarity issue will be settled ... but not so soon. It will take some time," he said. Ahmad Bashah reiterated that the move to remove Mukhriz as the menteri besar was not initiated by any particular quarters. "It had been brewing for some time. It continued to worsen. Looking at the political situation, we felt we had to do something," he said. Ahmad Bashah had led several Kedah UMNO divisional leaders, state assemblymen and MPs in openly expressing no-confidence on Jan 20 in the leadership of Mukhriz as the menteri besar and chairman of the state UMNO liaison committee. -- BERNAMA Copyright © 2015 BERNAMA http://www.bernama.com/bernama/v8/newsindex.php?id=1213496 .

  • Najib's Fork-Tongue Shows Again: Umno Talks of Rejuvenation Yet Oldies Get Plum Jobs at Expense of New Blood
NAJIB'S FORK-TONGUE SHOWS AGAIN: UMNO TALKS OF REJUVENATION YET OLDIES GET PLUM JOBS AT EXPENSE OF NEW BLOOD 11 February 2016 - Malaysia Chronicle The recent appointments of Tan Sri Annuar Musa, 59, as Umno information chief, and Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah, 65, as Kedah menteri besar, have raised doubts whether one of the oldest parties in the country is truly committed to rejuvenating itself. The two stalwarts are taking over the duties of younger colleagues, Datuk Ahmad Maslan, 49, and Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, 51, respectively. Umno’s decision to replace both Ahmad and Mukhriz with older leaders indicates that internal politics trumps the changes it must make to stay relevant among the younger generation. In a party where the Youth chief himself is 40 and sporting a greying beard, Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak has time and again stressed the need to rejuvenate itself and attract the young. “Umno and Najib specifically have been saying about it (rejuvenation) for quite some time but they lack the political will to do so,” said Professor Dr Arnold Puyok, a political science lecturer from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. “I don’t think Najib has totally abandoned the idea of ‘peremajaan Umno’ (rejuvenation). He is just being cautious as doing so will put him in a collision course with the old guards.” In fact, as far back as 2014, Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said older Umno leaders were unhappy with Najib’s call for rejuvenation as they believed it would pit them against their younger counterparts. He said the “noble proposal” that would help Umno win elections could be a “ticking time- bomb” instead.
