Not All Custom-Built Lincolns Were Passenger Cars ustom-built Lincolns were de rigueur at Lincoln dealer- C ships in the 1920s and ’30s. However, some of the most unique custom-built Lincolns were not those built for passen- gers but for use by the dealer- ship—Lincoln service cars. The Lincoln Motor Company actually encouraged its dealer- ships to create such vehicles. These were usually done in a very workmanlike manner, resulting in a reasonably attrac- tive vehicle. Both service vehicles and wreckers were built. Many Classic Era automobiles such as Lincoln, Cadillac and Packard were converted into not only service vehicles but tow trucks because of the cars’ weight and size. The Lincoln Service Bulletin (previous page) was a Lincoln Motor Company publication sent to Lincoln dealers’ service departments in the 1920s and ’30s. The Bulletins encouraged Lincoln dealers to convert used Lincolns into service vehicles. The Bulletins included photos of such conversions done by Lincoln dealers throughout the United States. At least one of these Lincoln service vehicles has survived, and there may be others.
