OUR NEW PRESIDENT & VICE-PRESIDENT DR CHANDRASHEKHAR B. KAMBAR, PRESIDENT, SAHITYA AKADEMI Dr Chandrashekhar B. Kambar, President, Sahitya Akademi, is a Kannada poet, playwright, novelist, folklorist and academician of great repute. He has a master’s degree in Kannada and also holds a PhD degree. A Fulbright scholar, he has taught at the Karnataka University, the University of Chicago and the Bangalore University, and has been the President of Karnataka Nataka Academy, Founder Vice-Chancellor of Kannada University (Hampi), Chairman of National School of Drama and nominated member of Karnataka Legislative Council. His publications include Mugulu (the Bud), a collection of poems published in 1958; Bembattida Kannu (Haunting Eyes) in 1960; Helatena Kela (Listen, I Will Narrate) in 1964; Narcissus in 1969; Rishyashrinaga in 1970; poems Savirada Neralu (Deathless Shadows) in 1970 and Takararanavaru (Hecklers) in 1974; plays Jokumaraswamy in 1973 and Chalesa (The Bespectacled Man of Forty) in 1979; a novel Kari Mayi (The Dark Mother) in 1978, and many more. Dr Kambar was awarded the Padma Shri, the Jnanpith Award and the Sahitya Akademi Award for his play Siri Sampige, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for playwriting, Karnantaka Sahitya Akademi Award for Literature, Kamala Devi Chattopadhyay Award for the play Jo Kumar Swamy, the Karnataka Sahitya Parishad Award for drama, the Kalidas Samman, the Kabir Samman, The Pampa Award, the Best Feature Film State Award for Sangeetha, and for direction, music story and dialogue. His research work on folk theatre is to be found in Uttara Karnataka Rangabhoomi and Bayalatagalu. DR MADHAV KAUSHIK, VICE-PRESIDENT, SAHITYA AKADEMI Dr Madhav Kaushik, Vice-President, Sahitya Akademi, has a master’s degree in Hindi and retired as a Rajbhasha Adhikari from the Government of India.
