University of Tlemcen, BP119 13000 Algeria 2IMBE, CNRS, IRD, Aix-Marseille University, France *Corresponding author: [email protected] ABSTRACT A study on diversity of ground beetle communities (Coleoptera Carabidae) was conducted between March 2011 and February 2012 in the temporary pond: Dayet El Ferd (listed as a Ramsar site in 2004) located in a steppe area on the northwest of Algeria. The samples were collected bimonthly at 6 sampling plots and the gathered Carabidae were identified and coun - ted. A total of 55 species belonging to 32 genera of 7 subfamilies were identified from 2893 collected ground beetles. The most species rich subfamilies were Harpalinae (35 species, 64%) and Trechinae (14 species, 25.45%), others represented by one or two species. Accord- ing to the total individual numbers, Cicindelinae was the most abundant subfamily compris- ing 38.81% of the whole beetles, followed by 998 Harpalinae (34.49%), and 735 Trechinae (25.4%), respectively. The dominant species was Calomera lunulata (Fabricius, 1781) (1087 individuals, 37.57%) and the subdominant species was Pogonus chalceus viridanus (Dejean, 1828) (576 individuals, 19.91%). Among the insects inhabiting endorheic, temporary and highly saline small lakes of central Spain during dry periods, tiger beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae: Cicindelinae) form particularly rich assemblages including unique endemic species. Cephalota dulcinea López, De la Rosa & Baena, 2006 is an endemic, regionally protected species that occurs only in saline marshes in Castilla-La Mancha (Central Spain). Here, we report that C. dulcinea suffers potential risks associated with counter-attacks by ants (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), while using them as prey at one of these marshes. Through mark–recapture methods, we estimated the population size of C. dulcinea at the study marsh as of 1352 individuals, with a sex ratio slightly biased towards males. Evident signs of ant defensive attack by the seed-harvesting ant Messor barbarus (Forel, 1905) were detected in 14% of marked individuals, sometimes with cut ant heads still grasped with their mandibles to the beetle body parts. Ant injuries have been more frequently recorded at the end of adult C. -

NEW RECORDS OF CARABID BEETLES (COLEOPTERA: CARABIDAE) IN EASTERN VISAYAS, PHILIPPINES DR. MYRA A. ABAYON College of Arts and Sciences, Leyte Normal University, Tacloban City ABSTRACT A survey of carabid beetles was conducted in six protected forests of Region VIII (Eastern Visayas) namely: Lake Danao, Mt. Nacolod, KuapnitBalinsasayao, Asug Forest, City Forest, and Closed Canopy on January to June of 2019. A total of 7844 individuals belonging to 41 species under 25 genera, 13 tribes, and two (2) subfamilies were recorded in the six selected forests of Leyte and Samar, Eastern Visayas, Philippines. There were 26 species recorded from Lake Danao, 32 species in Mt. Nacolod, 20 species in KuapnitBalinsasayao Forest, 11 species in Asug Forest, 19 species in City Forest and 26 species in Closed Canopy Forest. A total of 19 endemic species were recorded of which 12 are Philippine endemic, six (6) are endemic to Leyte and one (1) is endemic to Samar. After thorough examinations, the study provided new records of carabid beetles in the region. Likewise, new species of carabid beetles were discovered during the conduct of this study. The new records include Brachinusleytensis, Trigonotomagoeltenbothi, Pheropsophusuliweberiin Leyte and Lesticussamarensis in Samar. The new species discovered are Pheropsophusuliweberi and Pheropsophus sp. both are Original Article found in Leyte. These findings proved that the forests in Eastern Visayas can be considered as hotspots of carabid diversity. Appropriate protection and conservation mechanisms should be put in place. -

Abstract The collection of type specimens of the family Carabidae (Coleoptera) deposited in the Natural History Museum of Barcelona, Spain.— The type collection of the family Carabidae (Coleop- tera) deposited in the Natural History Museum of Barcelona, Spain, has been organised, revised and documented. It contains 430 type specimens belonging to 155 different taxa. Of note are the large number of hypogean species, the species of Cicindelidae from Asenci Codina’s collection, and the species of Harpalinae extracted from Jacques Nègre’s collec- tion. In this paper we provide all the available information related to these type specimens. We therefore provide the following information for each taxon, species or subspecies: the original and current taxonomic status, original citation of type materials, exact transcription of original labels, and preservation condition of specimens. Moreover, the differences between original descriptions and labels are discussed. When a taxonomic change has occurred, the references that examine those changes are included at the end of the taxa description. Submission of Manuscripts: Works published or under consideration elsewhere (including on the internet) will not be accepted. At first submission, one double spaced hard copy (text and tables) with figures (may not be original) must be sent to the Editors, Dr. Hüseyin Özdikmen for publication in MEZ. All manuscripts should be submitted as Word file or PDF file in an e-mail attachment. If electronic submission is not possible due to limitations of electronic space at the sending or receiving ends, unavailability of e-mail, etc., we will accept ―hard‖ versions, in triplicate, accompanied by an electronic version stored in a floppy disk, a CD-ROM. Mandibles are large and sickle shaped. Mizoram is one of the North Eastern Hill states of India, where no systematic studies on tiger beetles have so far been done and no mention of tiger beetles have been made in. This paper highlights, first ever studies on tiger beetles, documents, total 12 species of Tiger Beetles, of three sub families namely Collyrinae include one species, Sub family Theratinae include one species, sub family Cicindelinae includes 10 species, based on systematic studies conducted for a period of 12 months, from June 2009 to May 2010, at Champhai District of Mizoram, North East India for the first time.
