Overview

IBM(R) Runtimes for Business provides commercial support for open source JavaTM runtime environments, plus monitoring and management capabilities for Java applications.

OpenJDK support

Support is provided for community builds of OpenJDK that are in long-term support on the AdoptOpenJDK website. These community builds are available from the website for both server and workstation platforms. With this release, support is extended to include:

• A choice of Java virtual machines, now including HotSpot in addition to OpenJ9. • OpenJDK 11, in addition to OpenJDK 8. • IcedTea-Web with OpenJDK 8 when installed through the AdoptOpenJDK installers. IcedTea-Web offers equivalent functionality to Java Web Start.

Runtimes for Business enables you to obtain support for specific servers and clients in your enterprise. Monthly and perpetual licenses are available for both server and client deployments. This flexible approach to licensing is typically less expensive than buying a single commercial license to cover all your Java installations.

Java application monitoring and management

IBM CloudTM Application Performance Management, Advanced Private provides management software to efficiently monitor, analyze, and manage applications. Monitoring agents and data collectors are available for a variety of applications, including Java applications. Runtimes for Business provides entitlement to Cloud Application Performance Management, Advanced Private server and J2SE data collectors for resource level monitoring of Java applications.

With this release, monitoring and management are extended to include:

• OpenJDK 8 with HotSpot, in addition to OpenJ9 • OpenJDK 11 with either HotSpot or OpenJ9
