International NEWS Kyocera to supply 34 solar farms in Thailand Kyocera supplies 1 million modules with a total capacity of 204 MW for a large-scale solar power project in Thailand. In the context of the project “Solar Farms”, the Bangkok-based company Solar Power Co. Ltd. is installing 34 ground-mounted systems with a capacity of 6 MW each in the north-east of Thai- land, a report from Kyocera says. The modules are being supplied by the Japanese PV manufacturer. The Provincial Electricity Authority, Bangkok, will sell the gener ated electricity to private consumers and business customers. In total, the project will cover the energy demand of 170,000 Thai households with an average annual consumption of 1,800 kWh each. According to the company, “Solar Farms” is cur- rently the largest solar power project in Thailand.

Solar sea water desalination in Egypt

In the Egyptian tourist centre of Hurgada on the Red Sea, the Cairo-based compa- ny Solar Energy & Environment Technology (SE) has installed a solar sea water de- salination system. The desalination process is based on a thermal evaporation method developed by the German company Terrawater GmbH. The deployed module can generate 5 m3 of drinking water per day, for which it needs a thermal input of 50 kW (see also S&WE 12/2010, page 83). This heat is provided by a collector array with an area of 78 m2, con- sisting of 16 vacuum tube collectors from the German manufacturer AkoTec GmbH. “There are 8 parallel branches, each with two collectors connected in series”, explains Mohamed Gebaily of SE regarding the hydraulic system. The direct-flow vacuum tubes lie flat on the roof of the hotel that operates the system and uses the drinking water produced. The raw water used by the system is the saline ground water available at the location of the hotel, which is less than a kilometre from the Red Sea. Two 5 m3 steel tanks store the fresh water created. In the installation of the system, SE cooperated with the Egyptian company Acropol. World leader in Solar Water Heaters 30 years before the others discover the power of the sun

Thirty years of manufacturing Solar Water Heaters, means thirty years of innovating in the field, and introducing new technologies. Three decades of continuous development, combined with vast experience and extensive research, have established MEGASUN products as leaders in most world markets. Thousands of MEGASUN Solar Water Heaters are successfully in use in most countries of the world –from Athens to America and from Africa to Australia, to all Asia and Europe – providing continuous and abundant hot water. Today HELIOAKMI not only represent highly specialized technology and the experience of thirty years, but high quality systems which meet the highest demands. The solar water heaters are offered in both closed and open circuit, in a range varying from 120 to 300 liters. The forced circulation systems are offered from 150 liters up to 1000 liters, and they are offered as complete units or separately. Each systems consists of: • a storage tank with 1 or 2 heat exchangers (coils) • Collector(s) of 2,10m or 2,60m • Support base of the collector for flat roof or tiled roof • A carton box which includes all the connection accessories, the differential thermostat, the pump, the expansion pot, the antifreeze liquid, valves… etc.
