EAGLES TO BEGIN INAUGURAL AHL SEASON The Avalanche's new affiliate, the , will begin their inaugural AHL campaign tomorrow night (Oct. 5) against the Chicago Wolves at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland. The Eagles have spent the past two seasons as the Avalanche’s ECHL affiliate, winning back-to-back Kelly Cup championships in 2017 and 2018. Originally founded in 2003, Colorado also won two Central Hockey League championships in 2005 and 2007. They will compete in the AHL's Pacific Division.

BORN TO BE BLUE The Colorado Avalanche, the (NHL) and adidas revealed the Avs’ return to the popular third jersey for the 2018-19 season. The fan-favorite sweater originally debuted during the team’s 20th anniversary season on Oct. 24, 2015 vs. the at Pepsi Center. Inspired by the logo of the Colorado Rockies hockey team that played in Denver from 1976- 82, as well as the state’s topography, the Avalanche’s adidas adizero authentic NHL Division Rival third jersey is both a statement of regional pride and hockey history. By fusing the terrain of the Rocky Mountains with elements from the state flag, the crest features the “C” from Colorado’s state flag and places it in the center of a triangular mountain design. Additionally, the navy-base jersey has white shoulder yokes to evoke the look of snow-capped mountain peaks, while a shoulder patch of the Colorado state flag sits atop the left shoulder. This standout third jersey will be worn during 12 home contests this season, all of which will be against Central Division opponents as part of the Avalanche’s Division Rival third jersey nights at Pepsi Center.

Minnesota dropped a 4-2 decision in Detroit to open last season but is 4-2-1 in its last seven season openers dating back to 2011-12. The Wild opens its season against the Avalanche Thursday for the fifth time in franchise history, fourth time in the last six seasons and for just the second time in Denver. Minnesota is 4-0-0 against Colorado in those season openers, outscoring the Avalanche, 17-8 (10/5/06, 1/19/13, 10/9/14, 10/8/15). Minnesota starts the year as the road team for fourth straight season and for the eighth time in team history. Minnesota is 1-5-1 in season openers as the road team, going 8-1-1 all-time when opening the season as the home team (including a loss vs. Carolina to start the 2010-11 season in Helsinki, ). Per NHL Stats, Zach Parise ranks T-2nd amongst active NHL players in season openers in goals (9) and T-3rd in points (15).

IS IT OCTOBER YET? Minnesota has posted an all-time 88-59-28 record for the month of October, including a 29-15-8 record in the last four seasons – the third-fewest October losses in the NHL since 2013. DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK Ryan Suter returns to action suffering a fracture in his right ankle at Dallas (3/31) that caused him to miss the remainder of the 2017-18 regular season and the playoffs. Suter set a career high in assists (franchise record by defenseman) last season (45) and his point total tied his career best and franchise record for a defenseman (51). Suter ranked second in NHL in TOI/game (26:47) and ranked T-6th amongst NHL defensemen in PPA (22, franchise record), T-10th in PPP (23), T-11th in assists and T-17th in scoring. He tallied his 400th career NHL assist vs. VGK (2/2) to become the 11th defensemen in NHL history to record 200 assists with two teams. The defenseman is nine games shy of 1,000 in his career. In NHL history, 107 defensemen have played in 1,000 games.

NO STAAL ZONE Eric Staal tied Minnesota’s single-season franchise record with 42 goals (Gaborik, 2007-08) and ranked T-4th in the NHL. His 42 goals were the second-most goals in his 14-season career – Staal recorded 45 goals in his second season in the NHL (2005-06). He joined Gordie Howe as the only players in NHL history to have 40-goal seasons at least nine seasons apart (with none in between). Staal posted 76 points in 2017-18 – the third-most points by a Wild player all-time and the most in his career since registering 82 in 2007-08. The 33-year-old also led the Wild in PPG (11), SHG (2), shots (241), shooting percentage (17.4%) and ranked T-1st on the club in multi-point games (17). He was Minnesota’s representative at the 2018 NHL All-Star Game and was the NHL’s First Star of February after totaling 21 points (13-8=21) in 13 games to become the first Wild skater to be named First Star of the month. He became the eighth active player to reach 900 NHL points on Feb. 22. GRAND FINNISH Mikael Granlund set a career high with 46 assists last season and ranked fifth in franchise history for most assists tallied in a single season. He led the Wild in helpers in back-to-back seasons, the first player to do so since Mikko Koivu led the team in assists for four straight seasons (2008-12). Granlund also ranked second on the Wild with 67 points during the 2017-18 campaign – just two points shy of tying his career best set in 2016-17. He is two games shy of reaching 400 career NHL games to become the seventh all-time active Finnish-born player, fourth skater, to reach the milestone. Granlund recorded his second career hat trick last season, 12/29/17 vs. Nashville – he is one of just four all-time players to notch multiple hat tricks in a Wild sweater (Gaborik, Niederreiter, Parise).

2017-18 SEASON RECAP Minnesota earned the third-most points (101) in franchise history in 2017-18 and reached the 100-point mark for the third time in the last four seasons. Minnesota earned points in 19 of its last 25 games last season (14-6-5) and 35 of its last 46 contests following the NHL holiday break on Dec. 27 (27-11-8). The Wild ranked fourth in the NHL for most points (62) after the holiday break, behind Nashville (70), Boston (69) and Winnipeg (68). Minnesota extended its franchise-record streak by advancing to the playoffs for the sixth consecutive season, joining Pittsburgh and Anaheim as the only NHL teams to make the playoffs in each of the last six seasons. Minnesota went 27-6-8 at Xcel Energy Center and ranked T- 2nd in the NHL for most home points (62). Team defensemen totaled a franchise-record 200 points (42-158=200) in 2017-18, ranking second in the NHL for points by defensemen (Nashville, 206).
