The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest will soon be filling an interdisciplinary GS-0101/0401/1301-12, Geographic Information System (GIS) Position. The position will serve in a leadership role that is critical in coordinating and supporting managers and resource specialists between two National Forests, the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest and Ashley National Forest. Uinta-Wasatch Cache and Ashley National Forests: Located in northern Utah and southwestern , the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache (UWC) National Forest encompasses 2.3 million acres of spectacular scenery, unlimited recreation opportunities, nine wilderness areas, seven ranger districts, and borders both rural and urban communities. The Ashley National Forest is also located in northeastern Utah and Wyoming and encompasses 1.4 million acres (1.3 in Utah and 96,223 in Wyoming). Both Forests share management responsibilities of the High which is all designated Wilderness. Elevations on the Ashley National Forest range from 6,000 feet to over 13,500 feet. The Ashley NF has three ranger districts including the Flaming Gorge .

Duties of the position include:

The Uinta-Wasatch-Cache and Ashley NF’s has recently combined to form an improved business model in providing a “service first” organization designated Resource Information Management (RIM). The objective is to ensure RIM will be structured to provide an effective and efficient organization to support many and various projects across both Forests. RIM will provide professional assistance to resource specialists on both Forests in the identification, collection, and coordination of standardized data management including spatial, tubular and metadata with quality control and National Applications, such as Natural Resource Management (NRM) in order to provide technical support using computer generated products to analysis and assist in decisions related to resource management.

This interdisciplinary position will provide leadership and supervision in the management of the “new” RIM organization. The successful candidate will also serve as a RIM liaison among each Forest Leadership Team; serve as a technical advisor on GIS applications; develop and implement geospatial program goals; develop budget and program of work and prioritize the collection of information and data needs; coordinate and ensure proper standardization of data management and spatial products to provide quality control and assurance of resource data and projects; and most important advise, counsels, and assists Forest Service employees regarding GIS applications for various resource projects.
