As we prepare for the 2020 season, we have many accomplishments from last season to celebrate. None of our efforts would be possible without the great work of our teams, continued dedication from staff at the national office and the support of our millions of fans nationwide. For a fifth straight year, all 160 clubs reported their charitable giving and contributions, allowing us to accurately assess our collective efforts. It gives me great pleasure to say that in 2019, MiLB Charities donated nearly $50 million in cash and gifts in kind from our teams, leagues and partners — once again setting a new record-high total. In addition, MiLB and its teams nearly doubled our volunteer efforts from 2018, giving more than 26,000 hours in service of our communities.     OPERATIONAL INTELLIGENCE CENTER LAW ENFORCEMENT SUMMIT AUGUST 25 & 26, 2019 INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA OIC / LAW ENFORCEMENT SUMMIT OVERVIEW As part of Simon’s commitment to developing strong public/private relationships with our centers and local law enforcement, we have organized numerous conferences across the country over the past decade. For 2019, we will be hosting a two-day conference in Indianapolis, bringing together law enforcement executives, mall management teams and security directors from 73 premiere properties throughout the Simon Malls, Mills, and Premium Outlets portfolio. In addition, the FBI and DHS will also be participating in this summit as well as key security personnel from a variety of luxury retail brands. On the first evening, a series of live simulations will occur, along with a demonstration of Simon's new Operational Intelligence Center (OIC), followed by a second day of speakers from a variety of backgrounds, discussing relevant challenges facing the retail security realm. As we have in years past, we will be securing sponsors to help us underwrite this event to ensure we have strong attendance from our local law enforcement agencies, stationed all across the US.     Warning Concerning Copyright Restrictions The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research. If electronic transmission of reserve material is used for purposes in excess of what constitutes "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. Introduction The City of Reno received a Triple-A Minor League Baseball team during the summer of 2009. It is expensive to have a high level baseball team call a city home. Granted, the Reno Aces are not part of Major League Baseball, but they are only one step below. It does not cost nearly as much money to house a minor league team, but Reno is not nearly as large of city as the cities in which professional teams are located. The payrolls of Major League Baseball teams are in the tens of millions of dollars, where as the base pay for rosters at the Triple A baseball level are in the tens of thousands. The players at the Aces level do not play baseball for the money, they play because they love the game. Reno lobbied to have the team brought to Reno for many reasons (hoping the team would give the city a profitable investment and tourist attraction), and the point of the research for this thesis is to find out if it is financially viable to have a team in Reno.
