It’s the feeling that comes from an unexpected discovery in CA Labs, the chorus of friendly faces in the new house common rooms, or instructors from two disciplines working together to develop and teach a new course. It is the spark of encouragement that illuminates a new path, or a lifelong pursuit — a spark that, fanned by tremendous support over these past few years, is growing into a blaze. At Concord Academy we feel that momentum every day, in the power of students, teachers, and graduates to have a positive impact on their peers and to shape their world. It’s an irresistible energy that stems from the values we embrace as an institution, driven forward by the generosity of our benefactors. SPIRITING US FORWARD 2 REPORT OF GENEROSITY & VOLUNTEERISM 3 We often say that Concord Academy is a remarkable community. As you look through this report, we hope that you will see what we see: a community remarkable in its generosity. Time and again, we have been amazed by that generosity. In the pages of this report, you will see that the fiscal year of 2017–18 was no exception. Thanks to you, we are seeing strong momentum heading into our centennial, and we are excited about all that is still to come for this incredible school. Our greatest commitment at CA is to our people — the educators and students who define this school. We deliver a world-class education, and we strive to engage every student as a whole person. This combination makes for a truly transformative experience. We hope alumnae/i will remain engaged — with the CA community, and with the global community — for a lifetime. So often we hear from our graduates about how ideas that first took root here have become passions that blossomed into careers, and then became lifelong commitments — ideas that began in a classroom, or over brunch, or on a walk to Walden Pond. Delivering on this human commitment requires a great many resources, and we believe that our model of individual attention and close personal care is worth it. In fact, in speaking with donors and volunteers, we hear the same thing time and time again: “We can’t imagine a better cause.” We share the responsibility for CA’s future. We know that we are in this together, and we thank you for all that you have done. We are confident that CA will remain healthy and strong with our partnership as its foundation. In these pages, you’ll find a community that has come together around a mission and a spirit that connect generations of CA families. Each endorsement carries with it a story, each story a remarkable one. We are grateful to know so many of you, and we look forward to staying in touch through our centennial in 2022 and beyond. Thank you, once again, for all that you do for CA. Know that we speak on behalf of the entire CA community when we say that we are profoundly grateful. Sincerely, RICHARD G. This collective, community-driven fund fills the gap not covered by tuition and endowment income. This resource is powerful in its immediacy, and it must be replenished every year in order to sustain core programs and fulfill the school’s mission. In 2017–18, we asked the CA community to deliver $2,800,000 in contributions to the Annual Fund — 11 percent of the school’s operating budget. Your belief and confidence in the school, demonstrated through your contributions, are the true gifts that propel us forward. Such generosity at this moment in our school’s history creates fresh impetus to enhance our environment for teaching and learning, strengthen our endowment, inspire our faculty, and extend opportunities for our students across and beyond the campus. Together, we are generating momentum that will further Concord Academy’s admirable mission well into its next century.
