ORCHARD HOUSE WEST BRADLEY, Nr. GLASTONBURY ORCHARD HOUSE WEST BRADLEY, Nr. GLASTONBURY, BA6 8PB Wells 8 miles, Castle Cary 7 miles, Glastonbury 6 miles, Street 8 miles, Yeovil 16 miles, Bath 24 miles, Bristol 30 miles (all approx.) ORCHARD HOUSE, WEST BRADLEY, Nr. GLASTONBURY, BA6 8PB Wells 8 miles, Castle Cary 7 miles, Glastonbury 6 miles, Street 8 miles, Yeovil 16 miles, Bath 24 miles, Bristol 30 miles (all approx.) A delightful Georgian former farmhouse (not listed) in a peaceful village setting in beautiful countryside between Glastonbury and Castle Cary. The house has great charm and character and generous accommodation including a reception hall, a 29ft. drawing room, an open plan sitting and dining room, kitchen, cloakroom, utility, 6 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Some improvement and modernisation works are required and are totally justified by the property and its location. Outside are mature gardens of over half an acre together with various stores and garages. Offers are invited in the region of £650,000. About the Area Glastonbury, Wells and Castle Cary Wells is the smallest city in England (population 10,000) lying in beautiful countryside between the Somerset Levels and the Mendip Hills. There is a central market place (local markets twice a week), many medieval buildings including the Cathedral and moated Bishops Palace, a small but busy local shopping centre and a broad range of societies and activities. Glastonbury's past and its present are linked with its dominant landmark, the Tor. It’s been a religious centre throughout history and further back into the times of legends. There was a Celtic monastery here by 500AD which, during the next 1000 years evolved into one of England's wealthiest and most influential abbeys. The town grew up alongside the Abbey and is now a thriving market town and a major tourist venue. Castle Cary is another delightful historic town which lies to the east and which has a main line train station to London. West Bradley and Parbrook Lie closely together and are both extremely popular being in beautiful unspoilt countryside, remaining truly rural with little traffic and being very accessible. Close by are the villages of Baltonsborough, West Pennard and Butleigh which have primary schools, post office/general stores, pubs and very active and friendly communities with many local societies of sporting, cultural and community interests. The A303 is 10 miles south whilst Bath and Bristol are within commuting distance and less than 30 miles away. There are very good state schools and independent schools nearby including Strode, Millfield, Wells Cathedral, All Hallows, Downside and the Bruton and Sherborne schools. Orchard House stands alongside a quiet lane screened and protected by well established hedges with a drive leading in to a parking area on the north side of the house. Orchard House dates back to the 18th century, extended in the Regency period and whilst not listed retains many original details including the latticed windows, flagstones, a fine marble fireplace and the elegant well proportioned drawing room. The generous accommodation provides plenty of good living space (with oil central heating) and ample scope for updating. The entrance to the property is on the north side into a hall which has flagstones and an attractive inglenook fireplace. The adjacent pantry could be incorporated to make this a larger hall or a small reception room. The drawing room lies on the southern side and is a fine room measuring nearly 30ft being light and airy with a garden door flanked by two windows. The marble fireplace has a wood burner and shelved side alcoves whilst the floor beneath the carpets is probably flagstones. The kitchen has various fitted cupboards, a solid fuel Rayburn, electric ovens and hob and leads through to a double reception room with a dual aspect and a fireplace again with a wood burner. This combined sitting and dining room would make a fabulous "living kitchen" being in the heart of the house. Off the room is a utility/boiler room and cloakroom. There are two staircases and the main one rises to a landing which gives access to 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The second staircase leads to the main bedroom which has a door into the second bathroom and also a door into the 6th bedroom. These 2 connecting bedrooms could be adapted to provide a master bedroom with an en suite bathroom and dressing room. Outside adjacent to the parking area is a timber garage and also a stone garage which incorporates a store and also has a lean to green house. Also in the gardens is a timber office and several stores. The grounds are mature and quite delightful with lawned areas separated by yew and box hedges and specimen shrubs and trees including holly, laurel, bay, horse chestnut and beech. In addition there is an orchard area with apple trees and a vegetable garden. These gardens are sunny and well sheltered by field hedges and enjoy total privacy. Directions From Glastonbury take the A361 road towards Shepton Mallet and Pilton. Pass Millfield Prep and after nearly 2 miles turn right towards Baltonsborough. Continue for a mile and take the first left.. A short distance on at the T junction turn right. Continue for about 1 .25 miles and take the second turn right into Bradley Lane signposted Hornblotton and Lydford. Orchard House is about 400 yards along on the right hand side. • Shape Trail Instructions and Route
Street Baptist Church Holiday Bible Club 2021 Summer Shape Trail Instructions and route This is a car treasure hunt for all ages. It is a 20-mile drive around the beautiful Somerset countryside, including some out-of-the-way places you may never have been before. The route is given below with a number of “checkpoints” where you have to search for a shape. Once you have found the shape, check the clue sheet for the phrase that goes with it and write it in the box on this sheet. When you have found all the shapes you will be able to read the message – a bit of encouragement as we move out of the Covid restrictions. The trail takes two to three hours to complete and you could easily make a day of it. Or you might choose to split it over several days. We have suggested some ice-cream stops along the way. You can drive the trail whenever you choose but we are planning a picnic and games at the destination in Evercreech on Saturday 28th August between 12.00 and 3.00pm. So if you can do it on that morning, please bring a picnic lunch and meet at the end. If you complete the route earlier, you can, of course, drive straight to the finish on that morning to join in the picnic and games. The hunt is just for fun, but all children who arrive at the playground on Saturday 28th August will receive a small prize. Although the majority of the trail is on minor roads, there are some major roads to cross and short sections along major roads.

The database makes it possible to order references to an object in many ways including in terms of dedication, location, date, and possible authenticity, and it makes data available to derive some history of the object in order to assess the reliability of the information it presents.

DeDicattons of tfte Cfjutcbcs of ©ometsetsftire. BY THE KEY. E. H. BATES, M.A HE late Mr. W illiam Long contributed to the seventeenth “L volume of the Proceedings in 1871 a classified list of the Church Dedications given by Ecton in his Thesaurus Rerum Ecclesiasticarum, 1742. As Editor of the Bath and Wells Diocesan Kalendar my attention has been frequently drawn, from my own knowledge as well as by numerous correspon- dents, to the many errors and gaps in that list. It became plainly necessary to go behind the Thesaurus to the original sources of information. And here I may be allowed to repro- duce what I have already stated in the preface to the Kalendar for 1905. It should be clearly understood that there is no authoritative list in existence. Among the Public Becords are two works known as Pope Nicholas’ Taxatio of 1291, and the Valor Ec- clesiasticus of 27 Henry VIII (1536), containing the names of all parishes in England and Wales. These were primarily drawn up to ascertain the value of the benefices, and only in- cidentally, as in the case of towms with many churches, are the dedications added. The latter work, to which the title of V^ahr Ecclesiasticus or Liber Regis is generally given, was first printed in 1711 by J ohn Ecton. His preface contains a very interesting account of the early work of the Queen Anne’s Bounty Fund, of which he was Receiver, and of the serious state of affairs in the large towns which led to its foundation.
