Työn lähtökohtana on käytetty legendaarisen hip hop -yhtye A Tribe Called Questin rum- pukomppeja, joiden pohjalta on laadittu myös harjoituksia rumpusetille. Kuunteluanalyysin lisäksi työssä on käytetty apuna alan kirjallisuutta, rumpujensoiton oppi- kirjoja, dokumenttielokuvia ja internetistä löytyviä videoita sekä alaan liittyviä lehti- ja inter- net-julkaisuja. Transkriptioista johdetut harjoitukset keskittyvät bassorummun, virvelirummun ja hi-hat – symbaalien monipuoliseen hallintaan. Harjoitukset etenevät rumpusetin osa kerrallaan. Aside from the term’s deleterious connotations, I no longer feel that the concept is applicable and as such believe that it has outlived its welcome in academic circles.
