2014 Green Building Market Barometer San Diego International Airport Terminal 2 Expansion San Diego, California - LEED Platinum Certified 2014 Green Building Market Barometer Global Center for Health Innovation and Cleveland Convention Center Cleveland, Ohio - LEED Gold Certified Executive Summary In the sixth edition of Turner Construction Company’s Green Building Market Barometer series, commitment to Green construction remains high, with a greater focus on the benefits of improving the health, wellbeing, and productivity of occupants and the organization’s ability to recruit and retain employees. The latest edition of the Market Barometer surveyed more than 300 executives at organizations that own or rent space, or that design or construct buildings. Among its key findings, the study found that executives have expanded their planning beyond energy efficiency to also include water efficiency improvements when planning construction projects. Interest in receiving independent third-party certification under the LEED Green Building Rating System or under alternative rating systems increased from the 2012 edition. Sixty- two percent of executives said it was extremely or very likely that their organization would seek LEED certification if it were constructing a Green building, up from 48% in 2012, while the percentage very likely to seek certification under an alternative rating system more than doubled from 17% to 43% over the two surveys. Panel Discussion: Lean Construction: Prefabrication & Modular Construction Wednesday, November 9, 2016 - PANEL DISCUSSION TRANSCRIPT - Douglas Cooper: Pretty impressive stuff. What makes something like that possible? We hear things about efficiency in construction. We hear things about collaboration. We hear about prefabrication. We hear about modular. We hear about all of these things. Modular has been with us a while, but we're beginning to see this resurgence in modular and prefabricated construction, simply because now we have these wonderful tools and these technologies that bring that to fruition for us, like BIM that allows us to collaborate on a completely different dimension, and lean construction practices and that efficiency. We also have, we're driven by these green building things and sustainability and this desire to be more sustainable. My name is Doug Cooper. I'm the regional, lean major for Turner Construction here in the New York business unit. Tonight we're going to delve into this whole concept of prefabrication and a modular construction. We have a panel here that's going to share with us their thoughts. We're not only going to talk about the prefabrication from as a concept and a means and method. We're also going to talk about some of the behaviors that we see as professionals when we get into a prefabrication or a modular construction type scenario so we can try to understand that a little bit. With that I'll allow the panel to introduce themselves. They'll give you about 3 minutes of background and then we'll get started with the questioning. -

St. Paul Walking Tour
Cass Gilbert Society Walking Tour Fall 2004 CASS GILBERT SOCIETY WALKING TOUR, FALL 2004 This walking tour has been adapted by Marjorie Pearson from the tours prepared for the Cass Gilbert Society by Tom Blanck and Charles Locks in 1999 and 2000 and is based on their copyrighted material. This tour focuses on ten houses and two churches designed by Cass Gilbert. Also included are the home of his partner, James Knox Taylor, and the home of his chief draftsman and protege Thomas Holyoke. Several other buildings and sites that have personal or professional connections with Gilbert are noted. The tour begins at the intersection of Summit Avenue and Portland Avenue by the statue of Nathan Hale. Looking northeast from the statue of Nathan Hale is: 76 Western Avenue North, James Knox Taylor residence. Taylor was Gilbert's partner from 1884 to 1892, served as Supervising Architect of the Treasury from 1898 to 1912, and was head of the Department of Architecture at MIT from 1912 to 1914. The house has been remodeled, and simplified since Taylor’s residence. The Colonial Revival trim on the upper-level front windows and the Queen Anne sash on stairwell window on the north side are details indicative of Taylor's era. Walking east on Summit on the left is: Cochran Park (1924). Among the last works of Thomas Holyoke, Cochran Park was designed the year before he died. The fountain, landscaping materials, curving paths, and the placement of the shelter are inspired by the City Beautiful movement. The shelter, with its corner quoins, tracery, beamed ceiling, and slate roof, might be described as Beaux-Arts. -

Landmark From D+D, September 2010 By Joe Maty Editor, Durability + Design New York Life Insurance Company has successfully built an indelible brand identity by calling itself “The Company You Keep.” Perhaps equally firmly etched into public consciousness of the venerable Empire State-based concern is its landmark headquarters building on Madison Avenue, a Gothic- revival, Indiana limestone edifice designed in 1926 by the legendary Cass Gilbert. The towering structure has loomed large in the company’s media imagery for many years. No doubt it’s the building the company will keep, considering its intimate connection with the corporate identity. Recently, the company also demonstrated that the building’s roof it is surely determined to keep—intact in all its gold-gilt glory, a gem glittering amid Gotham’s steel, stone, and concrete canyons. New York Life summoned The Gilders’ Studio Inc., based in Olney, Md., to formulate and execute a restoration and regilding program for the pyramidal, lantern-topped roof, composed of 25,000 gilded tiles. The job entailed an in- depth evaluation of materials and methods to return the roof and lantern to their former, glittering appearance. The company also serves as construction manager for the project.
