At the same time, the product range has grown to include sparkling beverages, spirits and oily liquids, in addition to wines and beers. Today, Gai machines are running worldwide, in all types of bottling and labeling operations, with specialized technical assistance and lifetime spare parts. 1946. Gai is established. Giacomo and Elsa Gai start building their first bottling machines. 1959. Giacomo and Elsa move the headquarters to Trofarello in the province of Turin. 1965. Gai projects and builds the first isobaric fillers. 1972. Gai’s management is handed over to Eng. Carlo and Battista and their wives Renata and Adriana. 1979. Gai designs the monobloc. A single machine for all bottling operations has become the standard for the entire bottling industry and Gai continues to be a leader in this field. 1984. The all-new facilities reflect our all-en-compassing concept of quality as the basis of our relationships with people, the environment and the community. This is the reason why we chose a large open area as our headquarters, which is near a city and well connected to motorways and airports. Outdoor GAI COMMERCIAL and indoor spaces are designed to enhance concentration and minimize stress; areas with large maneuvering space, great attention to aesthetic care and cleaning, noise and vibration control from the factory. Energy comes from a combination of photovoltaic and solar power plant with panels of 2.000 kWp on the plant rooftops and three natural gas generators able to operate at different power levels, thus working in a most efficient way. Tri-generation energy is entirely used to heat or cool plants. The electro-mechanical Uninterruptible Power Supply, applying the old principle of flywheel devices and replacing expensive and polluting batteries, allows generators to work only when the solar plant does not deliver enough energy, instead of working at the same time. We have developed a software check for the whole energy production process, which will ensure the right safety margins and avoid any waste. Gai does not lend energy to public networks and therefore there isn't any dispersion bound to transfer by cable. We produce less and less CO2, saving

Understanding and measuring the shelf-life of food Related titles from Woodhead's food science, technology and nutrition list: The stability and shelf-life of food (ISBN 1 85573 500 8) The stability and shelf-life of a food product are critical to its success in the market place, yet companies experience considerable difficulties in defining and understanding the factors that influence stability over a desired storage period. This book is the most comprehensive guide to understanding and controlling the factors that determine the shelf-life of food products. Taints and off-flavours in foods (ISBN 1 85573 449 4) Taints and off-flavours are a major problem for the food industry. Part I of this important collection reviews the major causes of taints and off-flavours, from oxidative rancidity and microbiologically-derived off-flavours, to packaging materials as a source of taints. The second part of the book discusses the range of techniques for detecting taints and off-flavours, from sensory analysis to instrumental techniques, including the development of new rapid on-line sensors. Colour in food ± Improving quality (ISBN 1 85573 590 3) The colour of a food is central to consumer perceptions of quality. This important new collection reviews key issues in controlling colour quality in food, from the chemistry of colour in food to measurement issues, improving natural colour and the use of colourings to improve colour quality. • Impact of Storage Position on Oxygen Ingress Through Different Closures Into Wine Bottles
    J. Agric. Kinetics of oxygen ingress through different closures into bottles was measured by a nondestructive colorimetric method from 0.25 to 2.5 mL of oxygen. After 12, 24, and 36 months of storage, only the control (glass bottle ampule) was airtight. Other closures displayed different oxygen ingress rates, which were clearly influenced by the closure type and were independent of bottle storage position (upright, laid down) for most of the closures tested, at least during the first 24 months of the experiment under controlled conditions. The oxygen ingress rates into bottles were lowest in screw caps and “technical” corks, intermediate in conventional natural cork stoppers, and highest in the synthetic closures. KEYWORDS: Indigo carmine; oxygen ingress; cork stoppers; synthetic closures; screw caps; storage position INTRODUCTION position on oxygen ingress during aging to confirm the Ribe´reau-Gayon data. It has recently been reported that closures are one of the most Several methods have been developed to measure the oxygen important factors that influence wine development (1). Other ingress rates through closures (9-13). The Mocon method, factors are filling height, concentration of free sulfur dioxide at based on the measurement of oxygen transmission rates through bottling, gas composition in the headspace, bottling line dry packages using a coulometric sensor, is widely used (1, 13).

Case Study – Beer Bottling Line Increased Fill Speed Location : Europe Beer Bottle Line Total Annualised Benefit Target : Filling speed improvement € 1,512,000 Situation : The brewer was filling 330ml bottles at Solution : Cavitus fitted a BLE Lite unit to the bottle 34,000 bottles per hour on a KHS mechanical fill- line, rated up to 40,000 bottles per hour. As this line er with approx. 60% of product filled (Pilsner), 30% had high foam levels and a speed of 40,000 bphr the Weissbeer and 10% dark beer. Operational perfor- smaller powered unit was recommended. The Cav- mance of the line showed 15% reduction in filling itus unit was fitted 20cm prior to the high pressure speed due to over foaming prior to capping. The line jetter. The installation of the transducer/sonotrode speed was reduced to reduce spillage. on the star wheel was completed in 30 minutes (min- imal 30minute down time of the line and impact on production) and the cabinet control panel was fitted outside of the filler and completed in 1.5 hours due to good project pre-planning involving the custom- er’s engineer. Result : By applying the Cavitus foam control sys- tem prior to jetting on the star wheel section of the filler, the benefits delivered to the customer were; 1. Increased filling speed from 34,000 to 40,000 bph 2. Reducing the foam loss around the jetter and capper section of the line, 3. Maintaining the same TPO level, Payback period for the client was less than 1 month.

The purpose of this research was to investigate the accumulation of plastic debris in the Wonorejo River Estuary, Surabaya, Indonesia. Visible plastic debris were collected from three (3) sampling points along the intertidal area of Wonorejo River Estuary. The correlation between sampling points (SPs) and the amount of the collected plastic debris (CPD) was analysed using one-way ANOVA. Result of one- way ANOVA showed that the sampling point was significantly affect the amount of the collected plastic debris (p<0.05). A further analysis using Tukey’s Significance Honest Test indicating a significantly higher CPD on SP2 compared to the SP1 and SP3 (p<0.05). The amount of CPD were 126.07±12.00 g dry weight/m2 from SP1, 375.97±16.72 g dry weight/m2 from SP2, and 291.13±36.28 g dry weight/m2 from SP3. The highest percentage of collected debris item was plastic bags (up to 57.90%), followed by bottle caps (up to 16.65%).
