Brochure Download ZOUSAIN ZOUSTAR TRAPEZE ARTIST NICCONI WRITTEN BY STAR WITNESS STRATUM STAR SUPIDO YOUR SONG OUTREACH 3 Founded on Dedication Widden Stud has been operating for over 150 years under the ownership of the Thompson family. The resilience and success of our ancestors in the face of difficult circumstances gives us inspiration and confidence knowing they have confronted many challenges in the past and found a way to prosper. 2020 has already presented plenty of challenges, we have seen widespread prolonged drought followed by a summer of catastrophic bushfires and now a global pandemic impacting on every aspect of the way we live. This was never a year any of us could have predicted and we must thank our amazing staff and valued clients for their unwavering support and courage as we move forward through these uncertain times. Their ability to rapidly adapt as well as close working relationships with many in the industry has seen us achieve some great results for our clients and ourselves at a world first virtual Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale and other reformatted sales. Having the honour of selling the Zoustar full brother to Sunlight for $1.1 million to Hawkes Racing highlighted the strength and resilience of our industry and the value of our brand in a climate of financial uncertainty resulting from the pandemic. Breeding quality thoroughbreds is always our focus and our world class roster for 2020 is something we are incredibly proud of. As we celebrated Zoustar’s success of being crowned the Champion 3YO Sire of Australia with his first crop we moved quickly to secure his best son. We are delighted to add the exceptional three time Group 1 performer Zousain to our line up in 2020 as the third generation sire from this line. The great studs of the world secure their future in the quality of their stallions and our longevity and success are a reflection of constant planning and forward thinking. With our proven and promising stallions, the future is bright. Bred to be the Fastest A long history of producing the winners of Australia’s finest races sets Widden apart from our peers. With a great roster of speed sires coupled with quality mating advice delivering success for our clients at the highest level. In recent years, Widden has been home to Golden Slipper winning and producing sires, bred champions and a horse by our current flagbearer Zoustar has given us Champion 3YO filly Sunlight, a multiple Group 1 winner of over $6.5 million in prizemoney, among his ever growing list of stellar performers. Nicconi is the sire of mighty sprinter Nature Strip, widely acclaimed as the best sprinter in the country this season. A $5 million earner, he is a freakish athlete whose brilliance never fails to captivate and is the leading contender for 2020 Horse of the Year. For breeders who dream big, Widden sires can make it happen! 7 Born to be the Best Pedigree may be the blueprint for success, but what happens after your foal is born often means the difference between a good horse and a champion. At Widden Stud, we leave nothing to chance with our expert staff and world class infrastructure allowing our young thoroughbreds to grow and thrive in a safe environment. Producing thoroughbreds for success in the sale ring, and ultimately on the racetrack requires attention to detail with a tailored yearling sale preparation providing the basic building blocks for a horse’s further education. Our well thought out program of physical conditioning and mental preparation for our yearlings means they arrive at a sale ready for the task at hand and can make a smooth transition through the breaking in process as they learn to become racehorses. Raised to be the Strongest Bloodlines and the hard work of many generations of Thompsons have taken Widden Stud a long way in the bloodstock industry, but at the heart of our success is the land. Geography and mother nature have bestowed tremendous natural gifts on Widden, making it one of the most picturesque farms in the world, offering an unparalleled environment for young thoroughbreds. Located on 7,000 acres of spectacular horse country in the Widden Valley, our farm features rich alluvial creek flats sheltered by magnificent sandstone cliffs providing pristine and tranquil surrounds. Thoroughbreds raised here are strong and robust individuals with good bone that learn to test their strength early in our wide open spaces. 11 The Rest is Up to Them 13 Gr.2 winner and Gr.1 second as 2YO Second in the Gr.1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington to Sunlight by a nose Golden Rose Gr.1 runner up to The Autumn Sun by a nose Outstanding individual – a replica of his sire The best and fastest son of Zoustar Zoustar x Pasar Silbano (IRE) by Elnadim Bay – 2015 – 16hh Service fee: $19,800 inc.
