THE FUTURE GROWTH OF AUSTRALIA’S BUSIEST CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT (CBD). This work is being delivered by the CBD Alliance, an alliance between Roads and Maritime Services and Lendlease. Cycleways The new Castlereagh Street South and Liverpool Street cycleways were opened for use on Monday 28 September 2015, providing the first dedicated, separated cycleway route from Central Station to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. To deliver this project we: • worked closely with the City of Sydney who commissioned the cycleway project • worked in eight key locations in Castlereagh and Liverpool streets building median separators, upgrading intersections and adjusting kerbs and gutters • upgraded six intersections along Castlereagh and Liverpool streets to include traffic lights for the cycleway • adjusted 17 of 23 corners to improve vehicle and cycle movement. This plan will maintain vehicle movement around the city during the construction of Light Rail along George Street. To deliver this project we: • identified and accelerated work on key corridors and intersections in the CBD to support the bus services and start of the Light Rail project • started work on 10 of the 17 key corridors • completed the upgrade of four key intersections at Railway Square, Wentworth Avenue/College Street, Macquarie Street/St James Road/Prince Albert Road and Pitt/Hay streets New bus lane in operation on Elizabeth Street • opened an additional lane on College Street and sections of Wentworth Avenue to vehicle traffic.
