Playing their first season in 2015, the club’s first junior all girls' team has been a welcome addition. Games are played on Wednesday from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Competitions start 12 October. No experience is required, girls of all abilities welcome. Based at Koonung Park, the boys' cricket season is set to get underway in October as well. For more information, call Chris Jolly on 0433 350 264 or email [email protected] SPRING 2016 03 iMatter, youMatter, weMatter – RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS WORKSHOP WITH DONCASTER HOCKEY CLUB As part of its youth mentoring and domestic violence prevention program, Doncare recently ran an ‘iMatter, youMatter, weMatter’ workshop with members of the Doncaster Hockey Club. The workshop included young males and females from the under 16 and under 20s teams, and was facilitated by staff from Doncare and violence prevention company NIRODAH. The workshop covered topics including building healthy relationships with good communication, positive role models, healthy identity and values, awareness and responses to harmful behaviours and the importance of building a sense of community. Doncaster Hockey Club junior chairperson, Betty Tatterson, said the night was a great example of young people delivering powerful messages that are very relevant to players. The aim is for children to explore 1,000 books before they start school, based on research, which shows that the more books children hear, the better prepared they are when it comes time for them to learn how to read.
