It meets on the third Saturday of the month at 9:00 am. Members take turns bringing coffee and treats. It’s usually a very informal, but lively discussion and the books vary from classics to popular fiction or non-fiction. The book to be discussed in March is The Girls of Atomic City by Doris Kiernan. It’s the incredible story of the young women of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, a town created from scratch in 1942 and one of the Manhattan Project’s secret cities. Many of these young women were recruited from small towns across the South. They unwittingly played a crucial role in one of the most significant moments in U.S. history, the making of the atomic bomb. The final two books to be discussed this spring are: April 15—The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Zafon May 20— The Relic Master by Christopher Buckley Ministries Discipleship Summer Camp Registration Open at Good Earth Village Every awesome camp activity you've ever loved is back this summer along with a new theme that will feed your spirit. Jesus said to the disciples: "You give them something to eat." Witnessing five loaves feed more than five-thousand, we are called to share God's abundance. This summer, join in active participation of this theme through the camp experience. Capture-the-Flag in Old Town is calling out to everyone! Whether you're a Settler, just starting out, or an experienced Explorer, there's an incredible cabin group waiting to welcome you into the adventure. Additionally, Foresters debuts this summer as the first on-site high school program, blending the best of existing programs with added autonomy and group bonding. Plus, this summer, Good Earth Village offers its second annual camp just for grandparents and grandkids to grow in faith and make memories, July 5-7. Page 4 Herald Volume 38 Issue 3 Hosanna Fellowship Opportunity It is nearly beyond comprehension; however another stupendous fellowship activity has dropped in our laps. At 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 26th, the Rochester Civic Theatre will be presenting the musical “The Drowsy Chaperone”. The Drowsy Chaperone debuted on Broadway in 2006 and won five Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards. The musical is based on the book by Bob Martin and Don McKeller. This musical features the music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. We have been able to obtain numerous tickets to this musical highlight of Rochester’s 2017 theatre calendar. If you attended and enjoyed (how could you not) other RCT musicals such as “The Rocky Horror Show”, “Sweeny Todd”, or “The Producers” or even if you didn’t, you will really enjoy this musical. I can hardly wait!!! Mark you Calendar!!! Now for some details concerning the performance, we have numerous tickets @ $25.00 “gathered to grow…sent serve” to each for Sunday, March 26th at 2 PM. Following the performance, we will have 5:00 PM reservations for dinner at a location to be determined. Questions can be directed to Paul Anderson at 282-7213 or [email protected]. Lenten Soup Suppers The time for Hosanna’s traditional Lenten Soup Suppers has nearly arrived. All members can participate in this priceless fellowship opportunity, which will again help make the Sea- son of Lent a special time at Hosanna. As in past years we will need volunteers (individuals or groups) to provide Soup (see below) and Bread. In addition, we will need people to help serve and cleanup. You may ask what do I need to know? Well here are some details: When/What: March 15 (Soup) March 22 (Soup) March 29 (Soup) April 5 (Soup) Time: 6:00 PM Fellowship Ministries Fellowship What: 8-9 Soups 7 Breads 3-4 Servers/Cleanup How: Signup Sheets in the Narthex You can signup for more than one Wednesday. One time bring soup (see above), another time bring Bread. You don’t have to serve or cleanup if you don’t want to. You don’t even have to stay and eat. If enough volunteers don’t step forward, we still have food, however it will not be as good. For further information or if you are too shy to use the signup sheets at church you can call Paul Anderson @ 282-7213 or email at [email protected]. Herald Volume 38 Issue 3 Page 5 8000 Feet and Counting… What Curtis and Katie Kline have been up to in Bogota, Columbia “gathered to grow…” The St. Paul Lutheran Church in southern Bogota has been searching for ways to reconnect with its surrounding community which, in some ways, has changed drastically over the last 50 years. In discussions with Pastor Nelson and other church leadership, we decided that a congregation-based community organizing model is what they are looking for. While the concept of community organizing is new to the members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, they are very excited to begin a process that has the goal of revitalizing the relationships with the surrounding community as well as strengthening the church’s search for peace and justice in its community. We created a plan for the 2017 year that will involve weekly studies and monthly workshops for the community to strengthen its understanding of community organizing from theoretical, theological, and practical perspectives. These studies and workshops will go until July, when the congregation will come together and make a plan for how to move forward in connecting to the wider community. Ministries Oureach On Sunday, February 12, we held the first workshop after worship. With about 40 people attending the worship service, 22 stayed for the workshop (not bad for an education hour).
