If you are looking for a mere technical manual, you would do well to pick something more current, but this book is much more than a technical manual, and it makes no effort to keep its higher purpose secret. Its right out front in the introduction by Uncle Bob Martin. If you take the time to work through the examples -- slowly without skipping steps -- you will start to develop the mind of a software craftsman. Phrases like just enough code to make the test pass and write the code you wish you had will take on profound meaning and completely transform the way you approach software development.Well, that is what this book did to me anyway. Less than a year after picking it up, I moved from a project based on Ruby to one based on Python.Practices and mental habits from the RSpec book moved right along with me.
