BOTANY Originating from the Near East, the walnut tree belongs to the Juglandaceae family. From 10 to 25 m high, this deciduous tree has alternate glabrous leaves consisting of 5 to 9 aromatic leaflets. It has greenish elongated cylindrical pendant flowers. The flesh of the drupe, utilized as tincture, is non edible, but the stone with a bivalve shell contains a seed formed of 2 halves very rich in oil. To obtain virgin organic walnut oil, the plants are grown using organic farming methods. They protect the environment by respecting biological cycles and by refusing pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. PROPERTIES Walnut oil contains a seldom essential fatty acid (not synthesized by the human body) : linolenic acid, omega 3 wich has essential function in inflammatory regulation. Lack of this fatty acid is shown by disorders of the visual and cerebral functions, particularly during growth. Walnut oil also contains vitamin E, giving its regenerating, moisturizing and tonifying properties. It is a good anti-aging agent.
