1 Chronicles 17 - 29 1 Chronicles 17 The Davidic Covenant (2 Samuel 7) v. 1 David wanted to build a permanent “house” for the Ark of the Covenant. v. 3 & 17 The “Word” came to Nathan in a vision. (2 Sam 7:17, Gen 15:1, Jn 8:56) v. 10 The Lord was deeply touched and offered to build David a “House.” v. 11-14 David’s descendant will build the permanent House of the Lord. v. 16 - 27 David’s very humble response. 1 Chronicles 18 King David’s Conquests v. 7-11 David acquired great wealth and dedicated it to the future Temple. v. 17 David’s sons. 1 Chronicles 19 David’s Men Humiliated v. 1 - 4 David’s men were humiliated by the son of his friend Nahash. v. 12-13 Joab’s bravery and statement of faith. 1 Chronicles 20 Where Are David and Bathsheba? v. 1 Starts almost exactly like 2 Samuel 11:1, but no mention of Bathsheba. Note:Bathsheba is mentioned by name in 1 Chron 3:5 as the mother of Solomon. v. 4-7 Three More giants killed. 1 Chronicles 21 David Numbers Israel and invokes judgement v. 1 Satan inspires David to take a census. (See 1 Kings 15:5) 2 Sam 24:1 And again the anger of the LORD was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them to say, Go, number Israel and Judah. KJV v. 10-12 The Lord gives David 3 options for his punishment. 1) Three Year’s of Famine 2) Three months of national destruction at the hands of enemies. 3) Three days of judgement from God. David chose this option. v. 15 God stopped the judgement at the future Temple Mt. location. v. 18 The Lord used this episode for David to build an altar on the Temple Mt. v. 20 Arunah the Jebusite saw the angel of Yahweh. v. 26 Supernatural Fire falls on the sacrifice at “The Place” of the future Temple. v. 29 The Tabernacle of Moses is still at Gibeon. 1 Chronicles 22 David’s Wealth that was Dedicated to the Temple v. 1 David dedicated the threshing floor as the future Temple site. (Deu 16) v. 2-5 David made extensive preparations for the Temple before his death. v. 6-8 David charged Solomon to build the Temple. v. 9 “Solomon” is derived from Shalom and means “peaceful.” v. 14-16 David’s amassed great wealth for the Temple. 1 Chronicles 23 David Makes Solomon King v. 1 King David appoints Solomon as his successor. v. 3 The Levites were required by Moses to be 30 years old to serve. v. 5 David made musical instruments. v. 24-32 David modified the Levitical ages and duties for the coming Temple. 1 Chronicles 24 David’s 24 Divisions of the Levites v. 10 The father of John the Baptist was of the Abijah Division. (See Luke 1:5) 1 Chronicles 25 David’s Musicians v. 1 David set up Priests that prophesied with music. v. 3 Other Priests we’re appointed to thank and praise the Lord continually. v. 5-6 Heman, the King’s seer, had 3 Daughters who served. (Ps 68:25) 1 Chronicles 26 David’s Porters v. 4-8 The sixty-two sons of Obededom. v. 28 Samuel, Saul, Abner and Joab also dedicated personal wealth to be used in the future Temple. 1 Chronicles 27 David’s Military Divisions 1 Chronicles 28 David’s Farewell Speech v. 1 David assembled all the leaders of Israel in Jerusalem. v. 5-6 God chose Solomon as David’s successor out of 19 sons. v. 9 David’s charge to King Solomon. v. 11-18 David gave Solomon the Temple plans. v. 19 The Lord’s hand wrote the plans? 1 Chron 28:19 All was in writing from the hand of Jehovah. He caused me to understand all the work of the pattern. Literal Translation 1 Chronicles 29 David's Last Recorded Prayer and His Death v. 1 David addressed the Nation. v. 2-4 David dedicated his personal wealth to the Lord’s Temple. v. 5-9 Many others dedicated wealth for the Lord’s Temple. v. 10-13 David’s Prayer sounds similar to Jesus’ Prayer in Matt 6:9-13 v. 20 David blessed the Lord and had the nation bless Him. v. 22 Solomon is anointed as David’s successor. v. 26-28 David’s death. v. 29 The books of Samuel, Nathan and Gad probably became 1 & 2 Samuel. .
