CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

It is with pleasure that I present my fifth and last annual report as Chairman of the Fitzroy Doncaster Cricket Club. I trust I can leave you with a positive feeling.

From the outset I wish to place on public record my heartfelt thanks to my Board for their support to me particularly, through my illness. My thanks are also extended to those supporters who also helped when needed.

This season has been most successful from an administrative perspective. The year saw all sporting clubs in the City of Manningham have their rentals reduced significantly and receive reimbursements of overpaid rents. A new lease was also executed which makes both parties more accountable throughout tenure.

I wish to thank Council for its support and particularly for the close working relationship we have with Zac Anver. Our appreciation also goes to Jeff Young and George Costa, whom along with David Blakley oversaw the re couching program, that left most people shaking heads at the vast improvement of the playing surface of the main oval. David is hopeful that by Christmas the oval will be completely couched. We hope that one day the bottom oval will be the same.

This drought has made it very clear that as a society and as a club we must ensure that potable water is not used on our ovals in the future. Our board has approached Council and the Minister for Water Hon. Tim Holding to consider the provision of recycled water that would offer not only a benefit to our ground but a further six sporting arenas within the municipality

I am proud of the close working relationship we have with the football club and wish President Paul Valkenburg every success for the season.

Junior Development has generally been successful over the past five years and for that I thank the work of Geoff Bowyer and his many helpers. That said, with Geoff’s’ departure, we realised that with so many young players leaving as well we needed to review our program. This has been done and we are proud to announce that Phil Lovell will be our new Development coach. He has a sound base of juniors to work with, and we all look forward to a continued supply of young talent to our seniors.

I wish to thank Denis Sims for his work over the past few years. We wish him every success at his new club Templestowe.

Our club is indebted to our sponsors who have again shown confidence in our product, this is most rewarding.

To Paul Thompson and his friendly staff at the Doncaster East Community Bank we again thank you for another excellent year of support. We trust that the Bank continues to see our relationship as a tangible partnership working for the benefit for sport and business

We have enjoyed a new partnership with the Manningham Club. We look forward to building this relationship and that mutual benefits result and get better with experience. As the popularity of the Twenty 20 game expands we trust the Manningham brand will become more and more prominent.

To David Dickson and Rinnai we thank you for your continued support. It is always good to see your staff at the Twenty 20 games as it us with an opportunity to reciprocate goodwill.

New coach Andrew Walton deserves congratulations on his first year at the Club, particularly bearing in mind our performance in finishing fifth in the Club Championship. Andrew’s attention to

1

detail was to be admired and with a chance to recruit well we can hope for further improvement next season

To the players who shared captaincy in the First X1, Lloyd Mash, Peter Dickson and Ben Waterman, I say well done. To Lloyd, thank you for your support over the years. To Peter who took over when Lloyd stood down, we trust an injury free year next year will be of major benefit to you and the club in general. Ben Waterman capably filled the void as required.

Thanks also to the Captains of all the other teams for a job well done.

FDCC extend best wishes to Brad Knowles on being selected for the WA side. In a season that ultimately offered not much more than personal satisfaction at FDCC his promotion was a fitting result. A welcomed is always available at our club.

A warm thank you to the “Dads on the Hill” for your work around the club, be it a Twenty 20 night, scoring or helping in the Clubrooms.

To Graeme and Ilva absolute cornerstones in the fabric of our club, thanks for your contribution- even Graeme’s heart attack did not deter their enthusiasm. I extend my gratitude to all other ladies and gents for their help in either washing up or helping to serve afternoon tea.

To Glenda Mash and my wife Margaret, Thursday nights will never be the same. I know the players have enjoyed the concept of meals on a Thursday night.

I wish to finally thank Maurie, for untiring efforts. His support has been appreciated, particularly when I have been unwell. Maurie is the engine room of our Club and need to ensure he receives more support in the years ahead. His work with major sponsors has been first class, we wish he and Gabrielle safe travelling on what will be a well earned holiday.

Let history judge me for my time at our club, but I know that it has been an absolute privilege to serve and I treasure the memories.

One trusts that my health can recover well enough to continue, where required. For now, the time has arrived to be there for Margaret and my family, the greatest supporters to my FDCC endeavours.

ADMINISTRATION MANAGER'S REPORT

There are many memorable moments from the 2008-09 season deserving of recognition .

The appointment of Head coach Andrew Walton injected enthusiasm and vision to the club that again made us a force to be recognised within the Victorian Premier Cricket competition. He was ably supported by Dennis Sims and Geoff Bowyer who contributed many hours of their time to find and ensure we have quality players who have the potential and ability to progress to the next level of cricket and who will contribute to the Club for many season s into the future.

Golden Lions Coterie celebrated their 25 years of support to the Club and players. Commencing with only thirteen members in the 1983-84 season, the Coterie has raised and contributed to the Fitzroy Doncaster Cricket Club an amount in excess of two hundred and fifty thousand dollars. This has been a fantastic effort by a great group of people. Thank you all for your efforts over the years and with the assistance of some new members and players may we see the Coterie continue to succeed for the next 25 years.

Our major sponsorship with the Doncaster East Community Bank continued this season with the addition of the bank logo being displayed on the Club polo shirt. The Fitzroy Doncaster Cricket Club is fortunate and proud to have such a partnership with the Doncaster East Community Bank. We thank you for your support as we do our other major sponsors, The Manningham, Austbrokers Countrywide, Rinnai, FleetPartners and Nicks Wine Merchants.

There are two gentlemen who over the years who have taken a great interest in our Club and who have assisted us in many ways. Both unfortunately lost their seats in the November Council elections. They are Mr Bill Larkin and Mr Ron Kitchingman and we thank you both for your past support.

In October 2008, the Manningham City Council completed its review in the cost of pavilion and ground hire charges. It provides a significant change in the cost of pavilion leases and a stream-lining and more equitable approach to ground hire. As a result of the revised pricing arrangement we received a refund from council of some rental backdated to April 2006.

For the past 7 seasons there has been an average of 12 outstanding performances per season by our players. This season however there were a total of 27 outstanding performances. I congratulate you all on these magnificent individual achievements. I also congratulate all other trophy winners and those players who made personal milestones in Premier Cricket this season.

To those who represented this state at various levels, the State of WA and those selected in the Premier Cricket Team of the Season, well done you deserved it. Congratulations and we wish you greater success next season.

The most deserving recognition is for our volunteers who perform the many tasks required around the Club. Thank you all for your support and your valuable time.

Maurie Turner Administration Manager

COACH’S REPORT

Qualified improvements were evident in club, team and individual performances over the entire season in 08/09.

The group as a whole continually demonstrated a desire to reclaim credibility despite whatever circumstances were presented, accepting that excuses are an easy option that are undesirable. It has been a great honor and privilege to be allowed an involvement with these Lions, who should from the purposeful steps taken in 08/09, be bold enough to aspire for sustained success while being mindful of the complete attitude and intent required.

After completing an honest appraisal of our starting point and what was within the “Lions Core”, the only stated aim at the season beginning was for the 1 st XI to win more than two games. Internally the goal was to achieve a 50%+ club winning record (achieved 45%) and have two teams in the finals (the 1 st XI and 3 rd XI achieved).

Home & Away - Season Win / Loss Record

Team Matches Win Draw Loss % Win 1ST XI 15 (17) 9 (2 + 1 tie) 3 (1) 3 (14) 60% (12%) 2ND XI 15 (17) 7 (13) 2 (0) 6 (4) 47% (76% 3RD XI 15 (17) 8 (5) 1 (1) 6 (11) 53% (29%) 4TH XI 15 (17) 3 (5) 2 (2) 10 (10) 20% (29%) TOTAL 60 (68) 27 (25 + 1*) 8 (4) 25 (39) 45% (36%) Note: Numbers in brackets represent 07/08

As we have found together, the path to attain a degree of success is complex, at times unyielding, tiring and emotionally challenging – however the rewards are without doubt worth every ounce of effort submitted. Ultimately it is the players that have the responsibility and are judged by performance and notable results. One of several pleasing aspects was that apart from the expected quality of performance from Dickson, Knowles and Mash – the rising of acknowledged quality in Campbell, Ghasperidis, Kellar, Maxwell has been validated to an extent which now gives the Lions depth of substance and variation.

Therefore to reflect upon the end point of 08/09, we are able to accept some satisfaction from finishing in 5 th position in the Club Championship (the highest position for the club in many years) which does imply improvement. We then honestly need to give due consideration to “what comes next” as any decline from this present level is undesirable, with advancement being the expectation. Is this something that we as an entire club are willing to confront, manage and advance beyond? Are we willing to embrace the feeling of having the majority of our playing group actively involved to the absolute last round? (only Carlton, Geelong and St Kilda were in the same position in the top 3 grades )

Specific points of improvement took time to develop as we were not well positioned at the end of the first five One Day matches (1 st XI – 2/3, 2 nd XI – 2/3, 4 th XI – 1/4, 4 th XI – 1/4). Overall nine different captains were mobilized for various reasons until we were able to settle on a leadership structure and gratitude is extended to all those that contributed. It was from November onwards that we were able to deliver consistent performances against quality opponents that reached a peak in Rd 10 when all teams comprehensively defeated Casey in every facet of the game. Continued focus on batting skills and placing a greater value upon our enabled each of the grades to average greater than 21.2 runs per with the 1 st XI delivering a competition best of 34.6, more than 12 rpw better than 07/08. Multiple centurions in Dickson (3), Ghasperidis (2), Nat Vardi (2), Maxwell (2) and Sam Sheehan (2) provided the core of many innings with additional support in half centuries from Kellar (6), Mash (4), Maxwell (4), Dickson (4), Campbell (3), Almatrah (3) and Court (3). Overall ten batsmen scored more than 400 runs at an average greater than 34.

13

To achieve this required many considerable partnerships with special mention to the following that were of substantial quality:

1st Wicket 212 Aidan Stewart & Sam Sheehan Camberwell 4 th XI 2nd Wicket 145 Gavin Kellar & Eric Ghasperidis Footscray 2nd XI 3rd Wicket 194 Peter Dickson & Gavin Kellar Carlton 1st XI 168* Lloyd Mash & Glenn Maxwell Dandenong 1 st XI 4th Wicket 145 Houssam Almatrah & Daniel Heatley South Melb 3 rd XI 127 Sam Sheehan & Daniel Heatley Geelong 3 rd XI 7th Wicket 113 Lachlan Curtis & Daniel Mu Northcote 4 th XI

To competently support the batting improvement, there was heavy reliance upon the bowling to create plenty of chances for wickets and enhanced control with more maiden overs. Daniel Vardi (38), Maxwell (35), McQuinn (34), Watson (25), Waterman (24), Knowles (23) and McCormack (22) delivered the higher wicket returns. Overall fifteen bowlers delivered more than 22 maidens and eleven bowlers had a strike rate of less than 50 balls per wicket.

Outstanding performances came from:

Daniel Vardi – 4th XI 7 / 31 v North Melbourne (12/71 for match) Daniel Vardi – 3rd XI 6 / 27 v Ringwood Scott Huntley – 2nd XI 6 / 42 v Carlton Glenn Maxwell – 1st XI 6 / 63 v Northcote

Other five wicket performances came from McQuinn, Orgill, Campbell, Knowles and Motschall with Hat- tricks achieved by:

Dale Campbell – 2nd XI 5 / 31 v Camberwell including Hat-trick Daniel Heatley – 4th XI 4 / 35 v Hawthorn including Hat-trick

Other highlights from the season included: • 1st XI unbeaten from Round 5 until the semi final that included a run of six straight wins • Bremner, Cashen, Augustin & Stockdale in making their 1 st XI debut • Illingworth and Scholes Trophies were regained during the season • The club winning every round against the opposition from Round 8 onwards • Mash 86* & Knowles partnership of 99 v Camberwell to chase 215 • Maxwell maiden century – 105* v Frankston from 90 balls in the “Big Al Woodford” round where the players paid tribute to a legend • 1st XI posting 300+ totals 5 times and not bowled out ten times including a run of five games straight • 1st XI wickets lost of 100, the lowest in the competition (average 122) • Mash & Maxwell blazing partnership v Dandenong at Kyabram under lights • Knowles & Waterman rip through North Melbourne to clean up with 8 wickets for 30 runs • Ghasperidis maiden century – 143 v Geelong on “Black Saturday” with the 1 st XI chasing 309, a total restricted by a resolute & limited Lions attack • Maxwell double v Northcote – 144 from 151 balls & 6/63 from 27 overs • 1st XI defeating Ringwood at home to secure home finals • Bremner 87* & Stockdale 38* close out the QF v Geelong with unbeaten partnership of 77 • Kellar delivering structure to innings with five partnerships from 79 to 194 at the top of the order • 2nd XI under pressure after four consecutive losses, comprehensively defeat Carlton with Court producing 141 • McQuinn & McCormack blasting through Sth Melb for 88 and Ghasperidis belting rapid 53* • Dominant batting display v Dandenong with 4 scores of 40+ with the bonus point secure, missed 1 Day Finals by 0.1% • 2nd XI deliver must win performances v Geelong with Campbell scoring maiden century - 124 & Northcote with Campbell / Court partnership of 104 post lunch

14

In addition to the direct preparation at the club that included weekly group and individual review, written feedback, batting exams, bowling plans, fitness testing and video analysis - several players were participants of additional coaching sessions conducted by Damien Fleming, Mike Young, Troy Cooley, Terry Jenner and Kent Hannam with the support of Cricket Victoria.

Apart from Schramms Reserve, various sessions of differing activity type took place at Topline Sports, Melbourne Cricket Centre, Bill Lawry Centre (MCG), Botanical Gardens, Princess Park, State Museum and Xavier College. Players were also responsible for “Back To Local Clubs Support” where we visited North Balwyn, Mitcham, Panton Hill and East Doncaster Cricket Clubs to take training and provide coaching support that were all very well received and acknowledged.

Many of our players achieved deserved recognition at the next level representing our club and all have the chance to continue pressing for greater status ongoing.

1st ELEVEN REPORT

With the first five rounds of Premier cricket being one day games, we had a slow start with two wins and three losses going into the two day games. Despite some strong performances from individuals, it was not a combined effort and we could sustain pressure for the full hundred overs with eleven contributors. Whilst our first week of two day cricket did not go to plan with the ball, we began our assault on the competition as we showed some fighting spirit and batted out a draw by ending the day at 7 for 310.

As our batters began to grow in confidence and believe we could consistently make three hundred plus runs, the group began to believe in each other and know that we could win from any position. Younger players in the group began to grow in confidence and their performances showed. This was making it very hard at the selection table as there was constantly well performed players missing out, something the club had not experienced in some time.

After a good wins against Frankston and Casey South Melbourne (Bonus Point), and having a draw against Carlton after having them 9 down chasing our total of 310 we went into the Christmas break on the fringe of the eight. It was the next period where we began our charge towards the finals.

A strong win against Dandenong in the country round at Kyabram, and wins against North Melbourne, Geelong, Northcote and Ringwood in the two day games we finished the home and away season we second to Ringwood and were the form side going into the game against Geelong. After a rained off Saturday we began on time Sunday. We won the toss and decided to bat, and at 4 for 18 we were staring down the barrel at any early exit. This was when a very skilful and patient innings by Matthew Bremner (87 ) batted us into the next round of the finals competition. Lee Stockdale also contributed with 38 not out.

Playing our fierce rival Carlton for the “John Scholes Trophy”, and a place in this year’s Grand Final we all knew how much we had to play for. After losing the toss and being sent into bat on a batsman friendly pitch, we boasted 379 from 109 over’s putting ourselves in the box seat, contributions from Dickson, Kellar and Maxwell paved the way. Even though we managed three early wickets with the ball, we lost our way late on day two and Carlton fought their way back into the game with a strong partnership and we were to be beaten by a better team.

In such a loss as the Carlton game it is easy to look at the negatives, and despite letting such an opportunity slip, it is much more important for the group to stick together and give each other the best chance of redeeming our actions for the coming season. As of this proud club, I am honoured to lead such a fine group of young men. They experienced many challenges throughout the year; changing of captains, injuries to our experienced players and losing our club champion and club leader Brad Knowles to further his cricket in Western Australia. These setbacks did not dishearten our group, instead binding the group closer in typical Fitzroy fashion.

Congratulations to Brad Knowles on his success with Western Australia, and also Lloyd Mash on breaking back into the Victorian team, both these players deserve praise on their performances for the club and for their support to me as captain over the season. It was also encouraging to see such a young group of players including; Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Bremner, Lee Stockdale, Jacques Augustin and Eric Gaspheridis all step up to become regular first team players. These players are the future of the club and with the experience of Ben Waterman, Tim Sheehan, John Fagg and Darren Motschall who were an integral part of the group, it is once again an exciting time for the Fitzroy Doncaster Cricket Club.

Finally I would like to personally thank Ron Kelly for his help and support to me and the players, and wish him all the best in his future endeavours and hope to see him around the club in years to come.

2nd ELEVEN REPORT

2008/09 presented a year of opportunity for the 2 nd XI. The team was able to embark on its journey on an October morning at Windy Hill with the confidence that comes with the “reigning premiers” tag, but with only 4 members of its all-conquering 2007/08 side taking the field in Round 1, it was an opportunity for several new faces to take their respective cricket careers to the next level. 2008/09 was to see the 2 nd XI employee the services of 24 players; 10 of whom would represent the club in 1 st XI during the year, and 3 players share the captaincy responsibilities.

The season was filled with a number of highlights, such as James Court’s 141 and Scott Huntley’s 6/42 against Carlton, Tom McQuinn’s 5/18 as the Lions smashed Casey-South Melbourne on their home turf, not to mention Dale Campbell’s 5/31 (including a hat-trick) against Camberwell or his match winning century (124) on Black Saturday down at Geelong as the mercury nudged 48 degrees.

While acknowledging these performances, often contributed by our more experienced personnel, it is important in reflecting upon a season that we recognize the development of our younger stars on the rise.

Fletcher Stewart, who won the Player of the 3 rd XI Award at last year’s Ryder Medal, perhaps fell short of his own expectations in the early parts of 2008/09, but following the departures of Nathan Hrovatin and Michael Shaw, Fletcher was thrust into, and revelled in the ‘#1 Spinner’ role to become a key member of the bowling attack.

Although finishing his season in the 3 rd XI, Nat Vardi was able to string together a number of games in the 2 nd XI, achieving a couple of career-best results. But it was Nat’s return to the 3 rd XI with an added confidence in his own ability from his 2 nd XI experience, to make 2 hundreds and set the platform for a big year in the 2nd XI and beyond in 2009/10.

Andrew McCormack got a taste for it in the previous season, representing both the 2 nd and 1 st XI’s while playing a majority of the season in the lower grades, and sneaking into the 12 to carry the drinks in the premiership side. Injuries to a number of the club’s stocks this season saw Andrew accept the role of strike bowler and ended the 2008/09 atop the 2 nd XI wicket tally. A hamstring injury prevented him from bowling in the final round at Ringwood, a day concluding with two wickets the gap between the Lions and a finals campaign. Such was the importance of Andrew to our line-up.

When you miss out of finals by such a small margin it’s easy to look at the final balls, minutes, sessions and hours, and think about how it could have gone differently. But in reality, losing close games to the likes of Camberwell and Hawthorn-Monash University early in the piece can certainly come back and bite you at the business end. Rather than dwelling on ‘the season that might have been’, back-to-back premierships and the like, much greater benefit stems from reflecting and taking pride in a period that showed great development of a number of young players that will hold the Lions in good stead as we re-load and move towards 2009/10.

3rd ELEVEN REPORT

The 3 rd XI showed a lot of character this season and resulted in the team finishing 5 th and playing a final against Geelong.

There were numerous stages throughout the season when it appeared the 3 rd XI would not appear in the finals but the boys showed how good we could be by clinching fifth spot. We managed to come back from a 0 and 4 start to the season to lose only two more game for the rest of the season. The season finished with two great wins in the last two rounds. Games we needed to win. The first against Northcote and after being 1 for 0 on a wet wicket we managed to chase down 265 in 60 overs. Then, in the last round all seemed lost when Ringwood bowled us out for 95 at Schramm’s No 2. However, after a superb bowling effort Ringwood was dismissed for 55 and we secured our place in the finals.

In saying this, we saved one of our worse performances for the year in the final against Geelong, who bowled us out for just 86 runs.

Our batting let us down at times during the season and in the end we were bowled out for less than 100 on four occasions, which is just unacceptable.

We did however have some success with the bat. Sam Sheehan, Eric Ghasperidis both scoring 150’s as well as Nat Vardi recording back to back centuries in the last two games of the year. These players went on to play 2nd XI as well as Houssam Almatrah who contributed with some valuable half centuries for the team.

Our bowling was fantastic all year and apart from Geelong, who declared at 7/370, no side really got on top of us. This was evident as Tom McQuinn, Sam Carroll, Angus Watson and Nick Jewitt were able to also play 2 nd XI cricket for the club.

Firstly I would like to thank those who played 3 rd XI this year for their efforts. It was an enjoyable year and cricket is a great game to play when you are winning.

I would like to personally thank Andrew and Denis for giving me another opportunity to captain a Fitzroy Doncaster and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.

I would also like to thank everyone that helped the 3 rd XI this year. Especially, Grant Mitchell, David Sharp, Greg Heatley and Don Jayasinghe for helping out with scoring and other tasks.

Finally, I would like to thank Ron Kelly for his efforts during the season. What he does for us on game day and throughout the week is very much appreciated. Good luck with your retirement and we hope to see you round the club as much as possible.

4th ELEVEN REPORT

By purely looking at the ladder, it would appear that the 4 th Eleven had an ordinary year with only 3 wins. Delving deeper into the results, you can see that we had many close results losing games by 9, 6 and 5 runs and missing an outright by 2 runs. We also should have bowled Footscray Edgewater out when they were 9 wickets down with 40 runs to get. Fate did not seem to be on our side this year and it could have ended very differently indeed for us.

All members of the team during this season provided solid performances however we were inconsistent as a team and only had one or two notable performances during any one match. To be successful next season, we will need this number to be 4 or 5.

Individual highlights for the year: • Ash Jayasinghe: 75 against Essendon • Sam Sheehan: 135 against Camberwell Magpies • Aiden Stewart: 70 against Camberwell Magpies • Daniel Heatley: 4/35 including a hat-trick against Hawthorn-Monash Uni • Andrew Zaicos: 76 against Frankston Peninsula • Lee Stockdale: 92* against Casey South Melbourne • Daniel Vardi: 7/31 and 5/40 against North Melbourne • Lachlan Curtis: 129 against Northcote • Michael Sanderson: 75 against Ringwood

We had a number of promotions through the grades from 4 th Eleven team members. Most notably was the elevation of Lee Stockdale, who finished the season playing the last 4 matches in the 1 st Eleven. Angus Watson also finished the season in the 2 nd Eleven and acquitted himself very well at that level.

Congratulations to Andrew Walton, Peter Dickson the 1st Eleven for a successful year in returning the Club to its rightful place as a real contender in Premier Cricket. So close to playing off in a Premier Cricket Final is a wonderful achievement.

Thank you to Andrew, Dennis, Ron and Maurie for their guidance and support during my return to cricket. It has been a most enjoyable season for me and I am looking forward to next season. A big thank you also goes to Graham Cook, Bill Grabham and Craig Stewart for supporting the team with scoring this season – your efforts were invaluable.

HARVEY WATTS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD 2008-09

U/16 The 10 week program was run out of the Melbourne Cricket Centre every Tuesday night, commencing on the 3 rd June. All skills of batting, bowling and fielding were covered in the program. Four nets were used each session, with one net covering the ‘skill’ of the night. Most importantly, each net was controlled by a dedicated and accredited coach. The players, 33 in number generally came from the local area and were recommended by various ‘recruiters’. Of the players, 22 went on to represent CV Pathway or their association teams.

U/18 This was run over 6 weeks for boys not involved in under age games – coming into senior cricket. Two nets were used and 14 boys attended this program. Every boy was given a video of their batting and bowling to assist in their improvement – Many thanks to Graham Cook for his filming etc.

In September, Robin Daubeny addressed the players and their parents in the social rooms for just over 60 minutes on life choices. Robin is a welfare consultant to the AIS, as well as a highly sought after Life Training coach.

There are people who, without their assistance this program would not eventuate. These people gave their time at practice and review sessions without any payment, but out of love for the game and a want to help players.

Golden Lions Annual Report

In an era that has seen a shift from unpaid guest speakers to paid raconteurs. We and groups similar to ours face the challenge of determining whether we can afford this kind of entertainment, or whether we continue the demanding and difficult task of seeking out and attracting unpaid guest speakers.

One thing is certain - if we move more toward paid speakers then we need more support from club members and in particular from within the playing group.

Five years ago we had an arrangement with the players that each would attend at least one dinner per season and should a player not be able to make it, that player was required to find a replacement. To have eight players every dinner was great for the Golden Lions and provided an opportunity for the members and guests to get to know the playing group. It was also an opportunity for the players to recognise the efforts of the members of the Coterie Group in consistently raising in access of two hundred dollars per player, year in and year out. We need to re-establish this obligation of players to attend one dinner per season to ensure the ongoing viability of the Coterie.

To have an opportunity to listen to such champions as Bob Skelton, Stan Alves and Tony Shaw to name a few, is an experience to be favoured. Their attendance at our meetings was certainly well received by all who attended.

Golden Lions has raised funds for the cricket Club for 25 years and will continue fund raising as long as we keep receiving support.

As Secretary it is my intention to continue my involvement in Golden Lions but that will be determined by my health and the Doctor’s advice. I wish to thank our committee of Ralston, Denis Audrey and Doug, all who were so giving, along with Mitch. The club as a whole appreciate your endeavours.

To the members and guests who have again supported us, be it the raffle or by their attendance we thank you.

On behalf of Committee we look forward to your commitment next year.

Ron Kelly Secretary
