Poitín – a spirit of rebellion and inspiration Introduction In his foreword for the strategic vision for Irish Whiskey Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine Simon Coveney T.D. stated that with a growth rate of almost 200 percent over a decade Irish whiskey brands now represent the fastest growing premium spirit globally and with investments of €1 billion planned over a ten year period it is well placed to generate growth, exports and jobs and a very special tourist offering celebrating an all-island heritage (ABFI, 2014).
