    PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE REPORTING COMMITTEE ON THE FUTURE ECONOMY SETS UP FIVE SUBCOMMITTEES Subcommittees to draw additional expertise from the private and public sectors to deep dive into key areas of work The newly-formed Committee on the Future Economy (CFE) held its first meeting on 11 January 2016. 2 At the meeting, the 30-member Committee discussed and endorsed the five key areas of work that it would embark on to set the direction for Singapore’s future economic development. These areas are namely: • Corporate capabilities and innovation. • Future growth industries and markets. • Connectivity. • Urban development and infrastructure; and • Jobs and skills. Formation of Five Subcommittees 3 To take a deep dive into these five areas of work, the CFE will set up five subcommittees. For a wider range of expert views, the subcommittees will draw in additional representatives from both the private and public sectors.     PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE REPORTING COMMITTEE ON THE FUTURE ECONOMY TO REVIEW SINGAPORE’S ECONOMIC STRATEGIES AND POSITION US FOR THE FUTURE CFE members drawn from diverse backgrounds to bring multiple perspectives to tackle the complex challenges and opportunities that lie ahead Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced on October 1st 2015 that the Government will set up a Committee on the Future Economy (CFE). The CFE will develop economic strategies to position Singapore well for the future – to be a vibrant and resilient economy with sustainable growth that creates value and opportunities for all. 2 The CFE will build on and update the Report of the Economic Strategies Committee (ESC) of 2010, taking new global and domestic realities into account. Since 2010, the steady implementation of the ESC’s recommendations has enabled us to keep our economy competitive. But with rapid changes in the global environment, technological change and a slower growth of our labour force, we face new challenges and opportunities. 3 The CFE will address five areas crucial to Singapore’s future economic development: • Future growth industries and markets. Identify and design growth strategies for priority clusters in Singapore, and to enable companies to seize opportunities in the global marketplace. • Corporate capabilities and innovation. Recommend strategies to enable companies and industry clusters to develop innovative capacities, and use technology as well as new business models and partnerships to create value. • Jobs and skills. Assess the impact of demographics and technology on the labour force, and recommend strategies to create and re-design jobs, and to equip Singaporeans with the skillsets needed for the future.

On Monday, the world will celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD). So will Singapore. 2. I must thank Ann, all our Women Member of Parliament and activists for the creative way of marking the occasion, overcoming the physical constraints, and supporting our sustainability movement, all at the same time. 3. I also want to welcome our Sisters from the NTUC, led by President Mary Liew! Our sisters in the Labour Movement have been amazing - in terms of their resilience and unwavering support for the workers of Singapore. 4. Earlier this year, Minister Masagos declared 2021 the Year of Celebrating SG Women. 5. Indeed, women’s place in our society have be strengthened over the years. 6. Since the PAP has been in government, the lives of countless women have been uplifted. a. We see them in our families and communities, b. in our educational institutions and many occupations, and among our leaders. c. For example, compared to when we celebrated IWD last year, there are more women in Parliament. The largest representation of women MPs is from the PAP, with a contingent of 24.
