Show Hack Rules- Abridged Version (Based upon Arabian Horse Association Rule Book, see www.summitcountysaddlehorse.org for full rules) This class is to show the ultimate rail horse. It is not specifically for the English Park horse nor the dressage horse, but a class both can excel in with training. May show in: - ANY English saddle - Usually shown in Saddle Seat or Dressage saddles - Snaffle, double, kimberwick, or pelham bridle - Should be appropriate to the dress/saddle (ie: Dressage saddle with snaffle or double, saddle seat saddle with double, etc.) - Plain cavesson noseband (no flash, figure 8, etc) - Spurs and whip are optional - Martingales, breast plates, and breast collars are NOT ALLOWED Riders are to wear: - Attire appropriate to saddle used - Saddleseat coat and jodphurs with saddle seat saddle, coat and breeches with dressage saddle - Conservative colored coats are traditional - Formal attire may be worn and are usually worn after 6pm - Equitation suits - Dressage tail coat/shadbelly with white breeches Horses may be shown with braided mane/tail, but are usually shown with braided mane and natural tail Class is shown on the rail, both directions of the ring. Gaits to be called for are walk, trot, canter, and hand gallop, and must show the paces of collected, extended, and normal at all three gaits. - Walk: - Collected: covers less ground without loss of activity or elasticity. Hind feet should not step in to front imprints. Rhythm should be the same as normal walk. Head should not be behind vertical - Extended: horse lengthens frame and stride while rider maintains light contact. The horse should cover as much ground as possible without rushing. - Trot - Collected: Riders sits this trot. It it shorter, lighter, and neck is raised slightly while remaining on the bit/near to in front of vertical. The horse should show impulsion by increased flexion of the hocks/lifting of the shoulders. - Extended: Riders post this trot. It shows a lengthening of stride without speeding up, excessive knee action, or pulling down. - Canter - Collected: Balanced and characterized by free, lifting shoulders and shorter stride while maintaining the true three beat rhythm - Extended: Shows a longer stride without excessive speed and maintains a three beat rhythm. - Hand Gallop - A very long, free, ground covering stride. - Is looser, more free elongation of stride and frame - Extreme speed is penalized The class is judged on: - Good manners/attitude - Performance - Balance/Cadence - Smooth, clear, accurate transitions - True, straight, even, quality gaits - Light contact - Presence and Self-Carriage - Brilliance, animation, & vitality - Obedience/responsiveness .
