A Refl ecࢼ on by Fr. James

Scien sts have iden fi ed seven basic characteris cs of living things: movement, respira on, sensi vity, growth, reproduc on, excre on and nutri on. Of the seven, the process of growth is uniquely diff erent in that it takes place gradually and con nuously throughout the life span of the organism. While growth can be observed and measured over me, the actual process of growth at the cellular level is not generally visible to the human eye. In the today, uses the parables of the mystery of growth to illustrate the nature of the Kingdom of God. Just as the farmer cannot understand or explain the process of growth that takes place between the me of sowing the seed and the me of harves ng, so also it is diffi cult for us to fully understand the nature of the Kingdom of God and how it grows throughout our lives and among us. The parables reveal that the Kingdom of God begins as a ny seed of faith planted in our lives; it grows throughout our lives, transforming us and the society around us. Our faith is like a mustard seed. It started at our Bap sm and grows if we water and nurture it. This calls for our refl ec on on how we nourish the seed of faith in our lives. What spiritual book are you reading right now to grow in your faith? What prayers, spiritual ac vi es or charity works are you doing right now to nourish your faith? A fully grown faith can infl uence many people and transform the world around us. O en, we may feel that our own faith is insignifi cant, as small as a mustard seed. Jesus assures us that the Spirit is working in and through the ny seed of faith in our lives. Like the farmer in the parable, we need to be pa ent as we nourish the seed of faith and allow the Lord to ini ate the process of spiritual growth in our lives. The parable also invites us to plant the seeds of faith in the lives of others around us. We do not always have to plant the seeds of faith through theological preaching and miraculous healing, but we can do that in many simple ways such as an act of charity or compassion given to someone in need, an invita on to prayers, support to someone in despair, a friendly gesture towards someone in trouble, or a welcoming smile for someone who is alone. Through such seemingly insignifi cant gestures, we may plant the seed of faith and allow it to begin to take root in the lives of others which may grow into a frui ul harvest in their lives. Thank you and remain blessed, Fr. James

Feast of Faith: The Prepara on of the The altar is the focal point of our churches. It is a sign of Christ in our midst; indeed, it has been said that “the altar is Christ” (Dedica on of an Altar, 4). The altar is a table “on which the sacrifi ce of the cross is perpetuated in mystery throughout the ages un l Christ comes”; but it is also the place for a fes ve meal: “a table at which the Church’s children assemble to give thanks to God and receive the body and ” (Dedica on of an Altar, 4). From The Principal of St. John Bosco Catholic School Summer vaca on has offi cially begun for the students of St. John Bosco. These children (and teachers!) are to be applauded for their year-long compliance to strict pandemic mi ga on protocols. This was a major accomplishment and we all emerged stronger because of it. We are grateful to God not only for the strength to endure this daily ba le but for keeping everyone healthy. I wish to thank the en re St. John Bosco and St. Benedict communi es for the support and perseverance as we navigated through these pesky, but necessary, measures to mi gate the virus. I am very hopeful for our school community as we join the rest of the world in the return to normalcy. There were endless protocol mee ngs and decisions to be made throughout this unprecedented year but we successfully worked through it together. Thank you for your pa ence, partnership, and prayers. I am especially grateful to Fr. James for his unwavering support of me and of our school. His genuine love of Catholic educa on will ensure that SJB will con nue to provide academic excellence in a Christ- centered environment. St. John Bosco Catholic School is truly where faith is formed and leaders are born. Blessings for a safe and refreshing summer, Anita Pe , Principal
