When I was little, in the days before DVDs, we had something called a Viewmaster. It was a miniature projector that allowed you to look at photographic slides embedded in little round cards that rotated through the device. My favorite card was of Alaska. I must have looked a thousand times at the photos of mountains, tundra, Native villages, and wildlife. I also heard the stories of my father and his buddies who came north to ski and climb.
