HELP STUDENTS IN NEED GET THE EDUCATION THEY DESERVE Did You Know? Be a part of the Mountlake Terrace Endowment Scholarship Association (MTESA)

MTESA was formed in 1982 by a group of teachers who wanted to give back to the students they loved teaching. Since 1982 we have awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to MTHS students. The scholarships are based on financial need, academic excellence, and involvement in the Terrace community. The scholarships are funded by generous donations from the staff and community. There are several ways to give: MTHS has an OFFICIAL • Simply send a check Facebook page! • Sponsor a scholarship- in the past scholarships have been named in honor of loved ones or towards specific areas like Math/Science • Donate through the United Way campaign at your place of employment As our economy continues to lag there is a particular need this year. Contributions are tax deductible. If you would like to give a donation send a check to MTHS care of MTESA. If you would like more information, feel free to contact John Traxler. One of the highest correlates for student success in school is attendance. Attending school consistently and on-time is very important. Washington State has a compulsory attendance law which requires that children attend school and which describes the reasons that an absence from school can be excused. The Mountlake Terrace High School Attendance policy can be found on the MTHS website and is also described in the Student Handbook, also on the MTHS website. If you know in advance that your student will be leaving school early, please write a note in pen, dated, and signed. Please be specific in the date and time of the student’s departure. Instruct your student to bring the note to the Attendance Office either before school or during lunch. New Rocketry Club at Terrace! MTHS has started a new TARC Rocketry Team for 2012-2013. The excitement is high in a group like this… what teenager (or adult?) doesn’t like noise, heat, fire and speed??!!

The Rocketry Team is forming to compete in the national TARC Competition… the Team America Rocketry Challenge. The challenge puts teenagers and engineers together to de- sign rockets that achieve exacting performance targets. TARC gives students the opportunity to apply their math and science skills to a real-world problem outside the classroom. The goal is to inspire young people with the fun, challenge and potential of going into a career in the Aerospace field, and after 10 years of TARC competitions, the experience is proving to succeed in inspiring many young people to pursue careers in science, technology, engineer- ing and technology.

Teams will compete locally to qualify for the National competition. The top 100 teams from across the nation will gather to compete for the title of National Champion. The Top 10 Teams at the National Competition will split $60,000 in cash and scholarships!

The Rocketry Team meets after school on Wednesdays from 2-4 pm in Room 133. New members are welcome! For more information, contact Craig Devine at (425)431-5728(voicemaila) or [email protected]
