STATE ELECTION NOVEMBER 7, 2006 The State Election, legally warned, was held on November 7, 2006, in the Deep River Library Community Room from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Arthur Thompson served as Head Moderator, and Richard Faust served as Absentee Ballot Counting Moderator. A total of 2,090 votes were cast--1,965 on voting machines, 121 by absentee ballot, and 4 by IVS. Registered voters on the November 7, 2006, list totaled 3,067. Voter turnout was 64%. Nickse Deep River Town Clerk RECANVASS OF STATE ELECTION November 14, 2006 A recanvass of the votes for Representative in Congress cast in the November 7, 2006, State Election was held on November 14, 2006 in the Deep River Library Community Room. Approve appointments to the Planning & Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals, as recommended by the Board of Selectmen at their meeting of November 28, 2006: Planning & Zoning________(members) Frederick J. Approve an additional appropriation to the Funded Special Police Services (line item 10120 - 53090) in the amount of $71,970. This over expenditure will be totally offset by revenues. SMITH, First Selectman of the Town of Deep River, caused a copy of this notice to be posted on the Public Sign Post in the Town of Deep River on November 30, 2006, and I caused a copy of said notice to be published in the Middletown Press, a newspaper having a circulation in said town, in its issue of December 1, 2006. _______________________________ Richard H. Smith SPECIAL TOWN MEETING December 12, 2006 A Special Town Meeting was held on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, in the Deep River Town Hall Auditorium. Present at the meeting were about 75 citizens. First Selectman Smith called the meeting to order at 7:50 p.m. A motion was made by Richard Daniels, Jr., with second by Nancy Talbot to appoint Arthur Thompson as moderator. The moderator appointed Jeanne Nickse as clerk of the meeting. The call was read and accepted as the call of the meeting through motion made by Richard Smith with second by Roycroft Monte. Motion carried. 1. Kuhn 12-01-06 - 12-01-09 A motion was made to accept Item 1 of the call by Richard Daniels, Jr., with second by James Dee. Michael Spaner asked if we could vote the appointments individually rather than a group, and also, if the vote could be by secret ballot. The moderator answered that yes a motion could be made to vote by secret ballot; however, there is a motion on the floor and it would need to be defeated in order to separate Item 1 of the call. A motion was made by Margaret Duryea to close debate and vote on the motion. Motion was seconded by Ken Wood and carried unanimously. A motion was made by Michael Spaner to vote by secret ballot. Motion was seconded by John Kennedy and carried. A hand vote was taken and motion to vote by secret ballot was defeated. John Kennedy called for a poll and a hand vote was taken again with 24 in favor and 33 opposed. Motion was defeated. A hand vote was taken to accept Item 1 of the call. Motion was approved with 44 in favor and 21 opposed. 2. Approve an additional appropriation to the Funded Special Police Services (line item 10120 - 53090) in the amount of $71,970. This over expenditure will be totally offset by revenues. A motion was made by Richard Daniels, Jr., with second by Nancy Talbot to accept Item 2 of the call. A question was asked if this was covered totally by grants. First Selectman Smith answered that it was. A hand vote was taken and motion was approved 52 in favor and 1 opposed. A motion to adjourn was made by Richard Daniels, Jr., with second by James Dee. Motion carried. Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. Moderator: Arthur Thompson Clerk: Jeanne G.
