Residents of Teneriffe, Newstead, and Fortitude Valley will know the popularity of the CityGlider service which provides high frequency public transport services to many key destinations in the Inner City. Since May 2019, Council has been seeking to increase capacity of services to deliver more seats and standing room for commuters who use this service with the introduction of new vehicles on this route. We have recently reached agreement with the State Government to allow these larger vehicles to operate on the service, which will reduce congestion for passengers, particularly those travelling in peak times. The State Government has recently agreed to our equal cost sharing proposal that will finally allow the new higher capacity vehicles to be rolled out onto CityGlider services. The vehicles will still remain wrapped in the current blue design. The first 8 new vehicles will enter services in July, with a further 10 to be rolled out by December. This is great news for commuters and will improve this much valued service for local residents.
