LAKOTA WEST BANDS

The Lakota West Band Program takes great pride in offering a wide range of quality instrumental experiences, with concert band at its core. It is the belief of the entire music faculty that a well-rounded education, including challenging musical experiences, encourages a lifelong love of music, as well as character growth that enhances other aspects of students’ lives. Private study and participation in honor ensembles in strongly encouraged. In a typical year, nearly all Symphonic Winds students are involved in honor ensembles including OMEA honor bands, CCM Brass Choir, CSYO, CYWE, and OMEA All- State Ensembles. All of our students participate in chamber music as well as large ensemble music throughout the year.

Symphonic Winds is comprised of the most elite musicians of our 5 curricular concert bands. Symphonic Winds has received superior ratings in OMEA Class AA Large Group Contest in all years of participation, and has been selected to perform at the prestigious Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic on three occasions. Symphonic Winds has also been selected to perform at the OMEA Annual Convention on multiple occasions. All of our concert bands have earned superior ratings at district- and state-adjudicated contests. In addition, Symphonic Winds has performed in England, France and Belgium; the Dixie Classic Music Festival in Washington, D.C.; Rutgers University in New Jersey; Band Directors

Conference at the University of Akron; Music in the Parks Festival in Chicago; Dixie Classic Music Festival in Atlanta; and Tulane University in New Orleans.

In addition to the thriving concert band program, Lakota West has 3 curricular jazz classes; percussion ensemble; pep band; pit orchestra; year round chamber ensembles and jazz combos; and marching band each fall. Our marching band has won more than 40 Grand Champion awards; earned superior ratings in Class AA at OMEA state finals each year; and superior ratings at every OMEA-adjudicated competition entered. The marching band has also participated in and been named a finalist in several Bands of America Competitions in recent years. The marching band has performed at the Hollywood Christmas Parade, the Sugar Bowl, the Holiday Parade in Hawaii, the Rose Parade in California in 2008 and 2015, Disney World, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2013.

FILLMORE WIND BAND F B WFILLMORE WIND BAND

The Fillmore Wind Band is the city of Cincinnati’s official wind ensemble and namesake of Cincinnati-native and march king, Henry Fillmore. Founded in 2010, the group consists of musicians from the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky areas, and is part of the Fillmore Wind Program, which includes the Fillmore Philharmonic Brass, Chamber Winds, and the Wind Band. Paying homage to the late Henry Fillmore, the mission of the band is to promote high-quality wind literature in addition to preserving the audience-friendly, entertaining programs of the original Fillmore Band, conducted by Henry himself. Recent performances include invitations to the prestigious 2017 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL, the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign’s 2016 American Music Festival at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, the 2013 and 2016 Ohio Music Educators Association Conference, the 2015 Kentucky Music Educators Association Conference, and the 2014 International Women’s Brass Conference. The band also presented a “March Performance Practice” clinic at the 2016 Midwest Clinic. In 2018, the organization began sponsoring “WindFest” at , which invites the area’s premiere high school programs to perform alongside the Fillmore Band in this historic venue. This year we are honored to welcome the Lakota West Symphonic Winds and the William Mason Wind Symphony!
