Time Attack Regulations Page 1 TIME ATTACK REGULATIONS Effective January 1, 2019 ASN Canada FIA 481 North Service Rd. W. ASN territories and regions may adopt these regulations for use within their jurisdictions if they choose to do so including the sole responsibility for the administration thereof. These regulations are a guide to further general safety and in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants, spectators or others. No express or implied warranties of safety or fitness for a particular purpose shall be intended or result from publication of or compliance with these Regulations. ASN does not represent or intend that a car prepared for competition according to these regulations will meet Federal and Provincial motor vehicle regulations or local highway traffic laws. At all times, it is entirely the entrant and driver’s responsibility to not represent or intend that a car prepared for competition according to these regulations will meet Federal and Provincial motor vehicle regulations or local highway traffic laws. ASN Canada FIA (ASN) reserves the right at any time and from time to time to alter these rules. Such alterations or additions will be published in the form of revised regulations or bulletins. Changes to these rules will become effective on the date issued unless amended or revoked by ASN. Questions concerning rule clarification should be directed to the ASN National SoloSport Committee through the chairman or Regional representative. 2. These rules and regulations were established by the ASN and are intended to assist in the orderly conduct of SoloSport events and to further participant and spectator safety. 3. The text of these regulations was originally drafted in English and may be translated into other languages. In case of a dispute between the English text and that of any other translation, the English text shall prevail. 4. By participation in these events, all participants are deemed to have agreed to be bound by this rulebook. The interpretation and determinations of these rules by ASN officials shall be final and binding. In order to maintain a sporting nature, to achieve prompt competition results, and in consideration of the benefits to them, all members, clubs, officials of ASN hereby agree that: a) Determinations by ASN officials are non-litigable; b) No litigation shall be initiated against ASN, ASN regions or their members and officials to: reverse or modify results of such determinations or to seek to recover damages or other relief allegedly incurred or required as a result of such determination. Where a person initiates or maintains litigation in violation of this provision, that person agrees to reimburse ASN for all costs associated with the legal action. 5.     Department of communication Racing heroes and grieving widows: A study of the representation of death in motorsport By Jean-Simon Demers Thesis submitted to the Graduate studies faculty for the Communication master’s program Master of Arts Supervisor: Mark Lowes University of Ottawa Ottawa, Ontario 2018-09-23 © Jean-Simon Demers, Ottawa, Canada, 2018 Abstract Gilles Villeneuve, Ayrton Senna, Greg Moore, Dale Earnhardt. Only four of a number of high- profile race car drivers to have lost their lives taking part in events at the highest levels of motorsport. The aim of the present study is to analyze the coverage of death in high-level motorsport in the printed sports news of La Presse and The Toronto Star in Canada for the 1982 to 2017 period inclusively. Mobilizing the existing literature on risk-taking, namely Lyng’s concept of edgework, as well as Hall’s work on representation, a thematic analysis of a sample of sports news articles (N=488) was conducted. Three main themes emerged from the analysis. The discussion surrounding motorsport fatalities revolved around the individual (the deceased driver), the social aspect of the death (primarily the family members left behind), and journalistic practices (how to cover death). In conclusion, the coverage of death in motorsport was found to be an instance where the athlete is heroized and sometimes revered even decades after their death. In this aspect, the figure of Gilles Villeneuve remains pivotal to motorsport discussions in Canada, even to this day. It also was found that sports journalists, through their coverage of deadly accidents, enact the traditional roles of the journalist in offering social criticism of their subject matter to their readers, and that motorsport drivers enact a highly specific type of masculinity when practicing their sport.

It comes down to the driver’s atude towards their car and their compe_tors and the difference is quite pronounced. A racing driver is out to “win”. The car is a tool, bes_ng their compe_tors is the objec_ve. A vintage racer is out to run their car in a compe__ve environment, but preserving their car and the cars of their fellow vintage racers ranks higher than their desire to win. It is oIen called “gentleman racing” and that more accurately expresses the atude of vintage racers. It is most definitely door to door racing, but at 8/10ths. The cars are pushed hard, but not to extremes. Vintage racing is based on the concept of “racing room”. That means everyone is en_tled to enough room to drive their car around the track. The obliga_on for a safe pass rests with the passer – the passee is expected to maintain their line and is en_tled to enough space on the track to do so. This time, it’s racer Andrew Ranger who won the championship at the wheel his #27 MOPAR/Pennzoil. Like many drivers this year, Ranger, as part of the DJK Racing team, acquired a Spectra Premium high-performance radiator in the off-season. During the racing season, about fifteen drivers benefitted from the Canadian-built radiator. Among the many users, we find Ranger with teammate D.J. Kennington and Raphaël Lessard at his first races in the series. “I want to congratulate Andrew on his brilliant championship victory. With four wins and seven podiums, Andrew held a dominant position throughout the season until his successful conclusion.
