THE BARN Theatre originated in 1928 as the Mountain Lakes Dramatic Guild and presented its plays in a small stone building on the property of Jenny Robertson in Mountain Lakes. This property was sold in 1943 and the Guild took their shows on the road. In 1953, the Guild leased a former blacksmith shop on Route 46 in Parsippany and transformed it into the first Barn Theatre. When this land was sold, the membership decided it was time to have a permanent theater they could call their own! A $25,000 fund-raising effort enabled the membership to purchase property on Skyline Drive in Montville. In April 1966, the new Barn Theatre opened its doors. In September 1986, the mortgage was paid off, and today the Barn belongs to all its members. All productions are staged by volunteers. From the directors and producers, to the performers, to the hospitality staff, we are a diverse group with a common love for theatre, and a heartfelt dedication to the Barn. We are always looking for new talent, both onstage and backstage, and welcome newcomers.
