by Nick Katsoris March 3,1949 During this week, repairs began in Thebaud Hall. In February of 1949 the hall was ravaged by a fire, causing over $50,000 in damage. March 4,1954 Two students made a civilian arrest, chasing two would-be robbers from a dorm room in Martyr's Court to Fordham Road. February 25,1958 After a two-week disappearance, Fordham's mascot, Ramses XVIII, mysteriously turned up on the Marymount College campus in Tarrytown, The disappearance was suspected to be related to a series of events in which our Ram was kidnapped. February 28,1960 The $3,500,000 campus center, now called he McGinley Center, was officially opened. More than 3,500 students and alumni attended the ceremonies. February 27,1970 Fordham's request for state aid was approved as the university received $1,077,600 in state funds. The grant, however, did not lower tuition. Well, what about the 10 S percent increase in clothes laundering? The cost of using a washer has increased from 50 cents to 60 cents a load. The same is true for usage of a dryer. Does Lynne Viera this mean that the machines will work now at least? Hopefully these extra dimes we're feeding into the machines will go toward reconstructive surgery. A Weighty Iss Anorexia Nervosa: The Silent lexandra Woods was a girl everyone admired and wished to emulate, and A with good reason. Not only was she extremely attractive, with a "perfect" body, she was intelligent, clever, and a nice person to boot. There was only one small problem. Alexandra was starving herself to death. Allison Zisko

For the past six months, Alexandra had been obsessed with the desire to be thin. Despite what anyone else told her, she was convinced that she was much too fat. So she dieted, and dieted, and dieted still more. She continued to eat lettuce leaves and bouillon until her weight dropped down to eighty-six pounds. And her hair started to fall out. And her periods stopped. By that time, Alexandra was a very sick young woman, a young woman in desperate need of help. Alexandra may be a hypothetical case, but her problem is not. Every year, thousands of young people (primarily female) suffer from the ravages of anorexia nervosa and other related eating disorders, such as bulimia. Fortunately, there is help for those who are willing to accept it. For the past two years, the Eating Disorder Department of Gracie Square Hospital; has offered a treatment program for patients suffering from anorexia and/or' bulimia (it was the first hospital in New York to do so). It houses a twenty bed unit, which accommodates both men and women (though rarely mentioned or talked about, men do suffer from the disease as well. Approximately 10 percent of the population with eating disorderJ is male). The patients remain in the program anywhere from 30 days to two months, depending on the severity of their condition and many other intricate factors. There they undergo both psychological and physical therapy, which is important since anorexia nervosa is a disease in which physical problems are the result of a mental disorder. Anorexia can be defined as "a personality disorder, chiefly in young In our weight-conscious society, ads like k**-Z^^|^'**»«it women, characterized by aversion to food." this one are common.
