Your attention is drawn to the Important Notice on the last page of the text. Situation On the south eastern edge of the delightful market town of Bromyard, stands Sherford House, a proud and impressive Grade II Listed house of importance and elegance in mature grounds. The town itself is on the Herefordshire/ Worcestershire border, giving it excellent road links to the City of Worcester and M5, as well as Ledbury and the M50 as well as the City of Hereford. The town boasts its own theatre/ cinema, a great range of shops and pubs and excellent schools within the area including St Richards at Bredenbury. The Property Thomas Pritchard, an 18th Century architect known for his works at Croft and Powis Castle among others, is reputed to have designed this house in 1760. Well known for his interiors, of particular note throughout the house are some magnificent fireplaces, shuttered sash windows, ornate high ceilings and cornicing. In more recent years an Orangery has been added and outside a terraced walled garden has been created with a central water feature, all overlooked by a magnificent folly. On three floors and a large useful cellar are elegant and formal reception rooms. The large Hall is welcoming and bright with the grand staircase and cloakroom under at one end and doors to the garden and the key rooms including the back corridor and back staircase. The Dining Room has cupboards either side of an ornate fireplace. The Drawing Room equally has a fine fireplace and the Old School Room leads through to the Orangery with its pair of double doors out to the walled garden. The former office is now a bedroom with a bathroom next door. There is an integral garage with a Utility Room and Pantry. On the first floor the main Bedroom has its own Dressing Room and Bathroom, an arrangement which is also repeated on the floor above. There are two further bedrooms on the first floor each with their own bathrooms. The top floor is accessed from the back stair case and on this floor are four bedrooms and three bathrooms. The Gardens The grounds are on the south and west side of the house with formal lawns to the south with mature tree, shrub borders and a gazebo near the fountain. The secluded walled garden to the east is terraced and down through the middle is a waterfall feature all of which is dominated by an elegant folly.     WHITBOURNE WATER TREATMENT WORKS £857,000 water scheme for Bromyard area Whitbourne Water Pumping Station and Treatment Works at the time of its official opening in April 1966 This scheme was first conceived as a result of the government survey of Herefordshire’s water supply needs in the post WW2 era, but it was not approved by the Minister of Housing and Local Government until 1960 when the Herefordshire Water Board was put in place. At the ‘opening’ of the works, which had been designed to supply water to 12,000 people in the Bromyard, Ledbury, Hereford, Leominster & Wigmore rural districts, and meet about one eighth of Herefordshire’s water supply needs, it was described as one of the most modern waterworks in the west Midlands. The pumping and filtration plant had the capacity to supply 805,000 gallons a day from the River Teme (a tributary of the River Severn) through a network of 70 miles of pipeline. It was the single biggest scheme completed by the Herefordshire Water Board. Chairman, Mr SR Southall, said that in the past six years the Board had laid 350 miles of mains - ‘as much as the councils ever laid from the dawn of time until we took over’. He said that the board had made water available to 25,000 people previously without mains supply. To do this, 17 pumping stations and 18 water reservoirs had been built. He added that in addition, ten more pumping stations, six reservoirs and 150 miles of mains were then under construction. ** £100 in 1966 = c£1,585 in 2020.
