This award is for the July 1999 to June 2001 period.

1999: (with Joseph Oppong, Susan Craddock, Ibulaimu Kakoma and Jayati Ghosh). Awarded $47,000 to hold symposium in July titled: HIV/AIDS in Africa: Reviewing the Past, Understanding the Present, and Charting the Future. Funds from National Science Foundation ($30,000), International Programs and Studies (IPS) at UIUC ($7,000) and the Critical Research Initiatives program at UIUC ($10,000).
