 The college would like to work for achieving the vision and mission of the institution to provide the education to the people in this educationally, socially and economically backward region.  To create awareness about higher education among the students and their parents  To motivate the students for regularity in the classes and decrease drop out of the students

The context:

Our college is situated in the area which is educationally, socially and economically backward. The people in the society are not aware about the importance of higher education. We have to visit them door to door to make them send their children to the college for admission in the college and bring them in the flow of higher.education. Due to such background students who take admission in the college also do not have seriousness regarding their studies. They do not show interest in attending the lectures and co curricular activities organised in the college. Maximum students came with the mentality of formality. So they leave the graduation incomplete. There are other reasons also for the drop out students. Problems of such students are not conveyed anywhere in the system so remain unsolved. Considering the need of counselling and creating close, friendly relationship with the students, the practice of mentoring is suggested through IQAC. Mentoring through the constant counseling, helps the students to come closer to the teacher in charge.

The Practice:

 Mentorship is assigned to every teacher in the college. Each teacher is allotted equal students from the total number of students and he/she will be in charge of mentor of the student for three years of graduation. Particular format is developed to note down the personal and family background of the students.  One workshop on mentoring for the faculty is organised. In the workshop the guidance regarding the techniques of mentoring and counselling is provided to the teachers. Regular meetings are held to guide and review the progress of the work under the monitoring of Students Development Committee.  Every mentor visits to house of student to understand the background of the student at practical level through communication with the parents  Counselling of the students is done regularly regarding the awareness of importance of higher education, goal setting, regular attendance and study, utilising all the facilities in the college, filing forms for scholarships, competitive exams, end of semester exams, and participation in different co-curricular and extracurricular activities.  Through the communication with the students they are made to express their problems regarding education and they are motivated to cope with their problems. It is also tried to solve his economical problem by making him/her to apply for financial assistance from the scheme of Dr. A. P.J. Abdul Kalam Students Welfare Fund.

Evidence of Success:

 Mentoring was appreciated by the parents.  Enrolment of the students is increased in the college  slight improvement in overall performance of the students is seen  Students attendance for internal and end of semester exams is seen increased  Personal attention towards the progress of the students and their problems made them to be conscious about their performance
