M27 AND M3 MOTORWAYS, NEAR SOUTHAMPTON TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS Notice is hereby given that Highways England Company Limited intends to make an Order on the M27 and M3 Motorways in the County of Hampshire, and Unitary Authority of Southampton, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road. The effect of the Order would be:- 1) to authorise the phased overnight closure of; a) the westbound carriageway of the M27 between Junction 5 (A335) and Junction 3 (M271 Junction 2); b) the road leading to the eastbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 11 (A27); c) the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 5 (A335); d) the road connecting from the westbound carriageway of the M27 to the northbound carriageway of the M3 at M27 Junction 4 (M3 Junction 14; e) the roads leading to and from the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Rownhams Services; f) the road leading from the westbound carriageway of the M27 at Junction 3 (M271 Junction 2); g) the road leading to the coast-bound link road (connecting the M3 to the eastbound carriageway of the M27 M3) at Junction 13 (A335); h) the road connecting to the westbound carriageway of the M27 from the coast- bound carriageway of the M3 at Junction 4 (M3 Junction 14); and i) the road leading from the link road (connecting the coast-bound carriageway of the M3 to the westbound carriageway of the M27 motorway) at Junction 14 (M27 Junction 4) (Chilworth Interchange) to the exit slip road leading from the coast-bound carriageway of the second motorway to Chilworth Roundabout (A27/A33); and 2) to suspend the ban on the use of the outside lane of 3 or more by Heavy Goods Vehicles on the length of carriageway described in 1)a) above when not closed. These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake resurfacing, road-marking, stud and loop replacement, and all associated works. It is expected that the work would last for approximately 2 weeks starting on or after Monday 7th September 2020. The overnight closures would take place between 21:00 and 06:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 5 September 2020 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete. Traffic affected by the closures would be diverted using other junctions of the M27, and by using the M271, A27, A335, and A3057. The diversion in operation would vary according to the closure in force. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period. J Downham, an Official of Highways England Co Ltd.
