A Chicago priest talked during his homily about the compassion of a border activist accused of har- boring illegal immigrants, while another city church advertised a “deportation defense workshop.” Dozens of churches in Houston and Los Angeles offered sanctu- ary to anyone afraid of being ar- rested. DeChambeau, Johnson join field at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — (August 20, 2019): The No. 9-ranked player in the world and a two-time Major Championship winner are among the latest commitments to the player field for A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier, which will take place Sept. 9-15, at America’s Resort™. Bryson DeChambeau and Zach Johnson will both be a part of the 156- player field for the first event of the 2019-2020 season. DeChambeau has already won five times on the PGA TOUR and is currently ranked ninth in the Official World Golf Rankings. He will be making his second trip to The Greenbrier, after finishing T14 in 2017 at 8-under-par for the tournament. A California native who now lives in Dallas, Texas, the 25-year-old DeChambeau is known as “The Scientist,” because of his analytical approach to the game. His irons and wedges are all cut to exactly the same length. Only the lofts are different. In 2015, DeChambeau became the fifth player in history to win both the NCAA Division I championship and the U.S. Amateur in the same year, an exclusive club that includes Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods and Ryan Moore. His first professional win came at the John Deere Classic in 2017, and he won four times in 2018 — the Memorial Tournament, The Northern Trust, the Dell Technologies Championship and the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Johnson, 43, has 12 career PGA TOUR wins since turning professional in 1998.

  • Memorial Tournament Will Use High-Tech Badges to Track Everyone on Grounds by Dave Shedloski Reprinted from Golf World
InProduction thought you might enjoy this reprint… Memorial Tournament will use high-tech badges to track everyone on grounds By Dave Shedloski Reprinted from Golf World n preparing for the rescheduled Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, in mid-July, Executive Direc- tor Dan Sullivan and his staff just might be providing a blueprint for future PGA Tour events in this era Iof social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic. That blueprint includes the high-tech use of an RFID (radio frequency identification) chip in tournament badges to help maintain a healthy spacing of its patrons. Sullivan outlined a number of plans and safety measures for the 45th Memorial, slated for July 16-19, during a 30-minute “Virtual Sports Report” conducted via Zoom on Thursday by the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. Protocols he highlighted also include limiting ticket sales, curtailing capacity in the clubhouse and public gathering structures, elimination of all grandstands, supplying face coverings for staff and volunteers, taking the temperature of everyone who enters the grounds, prohibiting the sale of draft beer and fountain drinks, restricting all transactions to credit and debit cards, and distributing a healthy dose of hand sanitizer stations throughout the property. But it’s the RFID technology in the badges, which the Memorial has used for the last four years to monitor entrances and exits and identify choke points at Muirfield Village Golf Club, that could be the most important aspect of the tournament game plan. The chip cannot ascertain an individual’s identity, just the location of the badge. “At any time we can know around the golf course how many people are collecting in a certain area,” Sullivan said.
