Aman Singh Bhogal

Aman is a Grade 4 student at Mays Chapel Elementary School. Before attending Mays Chapel, Aman was a proud New Town Elementary School student in Owings Mills for four years. Aman’s favorite subjects include reading, mathematics, and art. He is passionate about learning, and his experience in Baltimore County Public Schools has been one that has fostered his intellectual curiosities and nurtured leadership qualities. One aspect that he notably appreciates is the diversity that his school community has provided. Aman enjoys learning about others that may be different from him while sharing his own unique experiences with those around him. When Aman is not at Mays Chapel, he loves to spend time with his friends and family, enjoys outside activities, and creates his own art by doing craft projects.

Modesola Olayniyi

Modesola Olayniyi is currently a Grade 8 student at Old Court Middle School. Old Court Middle School has given her the oppor- tunity to challenge her intellectual capacity. She is fond of Ge- ometry class because of the challenges it poses, which require her to utilize critical and analytical thinking. Her Language Arts class has enhanced her reading comprehension and writing skills. She is excited and prepared for a smooth transition into high school both academically and mentally. With the knowl- edge, experience, and exposure she has acquired, she is looking toward a new frontier academically.

In her academic experience, from elementary through middle school, she has main- tained straight A’s. In elementary school, she was the director of the morning newscast for three consecutive years. At her 5th grade ceremony, she received the President’s Education Excellence Award. She was also a leader and spokesperson at the National Young Scholars Program, and Junior National Youth Leaders Conference. Modesola is a productive citizen and a role model for her peers. Presently, she is the drum major in the Marching Band at Old Court Middle, which not only exposes her to music, but also allows her to exercise her leadership skills. In the future, Modesola hopes to pursue a career in law at Harvard University. Her aspiration is to have a positive impact in her community and to be able to positively transform lives, which she is certain, will come to pass.

Trés McMichael Trés McMichael has been in the performing arts business since a very young age. Trés attends George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology in Towson where he studies vocal music, theater arts, and dance. He continues to be recognized on local, state, and national levels because of his work in the arts. Over the years, Trés has been seen showcased in the Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Magazine, on BCPS-TV, and in TIME Magazine. Performing on stages at Berklee College of Music, the Lyric Opera House, and Signature Theater, Trés has a diverse range of performance qualities.

Aside from the arts, Trés represents the more than 110,000 students of Baltimore County as the President of Baltimore County Student Councils. In addition, he serves as a member of the Association of Student Councils Executive Board, Superintendent's Student Advisory Council, and Liberty Road Recreation and Parks Executive Board as the Teen Representative. Trés also spent 21 days in Anloga, Ghana building a library, painting a clinic, and learning about a different culture in the summer of 2014.

Trés is truly committed to using his talents to not only perform, but to make the world a better place for all people. In the future, Trés hopes to open the Arts, Com- munity, and Technology Center for Student Achievement, a school for underprivi- leged youth. He also hoped to perform professionally all over the world.

Brian Holmes

Brian Holmes is a hard working student who has maintained a 4.0 average throughout his tenure at Catonsville High School. In recognition of his hard work, Brian has been inducted into the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society, as well as being recognized as an AP scholar by the College Board.

In addition to his academic work, Brian plays varsity soccer and lacrosse, is a member of the Mock Trial Team and a leader in the Student Sharing Club. He serves as a Comet Culture Leader within the school, preparing and presenting civility lessons to underclassmen. He has represented Catonsville High School at the MPSSAA State-Athlete Leadership Conference and served as a panelist at several information nights for incoming freshmen interested in Gifted and Talented classes.

Outside of school, Brian is a certified U.S. Soccer Federation Referee and officiates soccer games in Baltimore, Howard and Anne Arundel counties. He participates in many service projects with the youth group from his church, including a 10-day work trip to Nicaragua to assist in the planting of crops on a fair-trade coffee farm. Brian greatly enjoys volunteer work and hopes to continue to participate in service projects while in college. At this time, he is not sure what major he will pursue but plans to explore the fields of biomedical engineering, neuroscience, and kinesiology. Taylor Lankford Taylor Lankford is a junior enrolled in the Milford Mill Academy Allied Health Magnet Program. While her career goal is to become an anesthesiologist, she has also considered a career on stage. Taylor is a gifted singer, dancer, and actress who has taken multiple gifted and talented and honors courses in the Milford Mill Fine Arts program. She has completed all of her service learning hours and is continuing to pursue opportunities to give back to her community through volunteer service. Taylor’s teachers and peers describe her as a smart and respectful young lady who is well prepared for her future.

Courtney Byard

Courtney Byard is a Grade 10 student who attends Sollers Point Technical High School. As far back as she can remember, Courtney enjoyed playing with little matchbox cars instead of Barbie dolls.

When she was 6, she went to her very first monster truck jam party. While in the pit area, Courtney became fascinated with the components of the monster trucks and wanted to climb all over them to see how they were made. When Courtney was nine years old, she touched her first engine part. Her grandfather and uncle were working on her mom’s Jeep and showed her the basics of how to change a belt. Ever since then, she has constantly wanted to learn more about engines and cars.

Courtney admits that growing up wanting to be a mechanic was not the easiest thing to go through, because when people think of just about any type of mechanic, they usually see males. Courtney’s idea is to change that. Courtney’s mother is very proud of Courtney and her work, she also really likes that Courtney can save her money by working on her Jeep.

Sollers Point Tech is helping Courtney fulfill her dream of becoming a diesel engine technician. In this program, in addition to learning about diesel engines, transmissions, brakes and electrical systems, she is also learning how to use tools and install parts. Courtney also realizes that studying and excelling in math is important in becoming a diesel engine technician.

Courtney is glad to be a student at Sollers Point Technical High School, which she says has provided her with a great learning environment.

Muluken Tekle

Muluken Tekle was born and raised in Adidas Ababa, Ethiopia. In 2005, at the age of 8 he moved to the United States with his family. He joined Baltimore County Schools as a Grade 3 ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) student at Norwood Elementary School. Muluken recognizes his experience at Norwood as a quintessential foundation to his current success. It was there that he made a successful academic transition, earned state recognition at the Maryland & D.C. stock market simulation, and mastered English. Today, Muluken is truly bilingual. He speaks fluent Amharic and English and is proficient in Spanish.

His steadfast and constant progress in secondary education reflects his ambition for the future. Throughout his entire secondary education, he has maintained a 4.0 GPA and excellence in rigorous academic subjects. Muluken balances his academic commitments with athletics and participation in other extra-curricular activities. Chesapeake educators have described him as a student athlete who, every day, demonstrates maturity beyond that of a typical high school student and a leader who exemplifies values of the school. In addition, Muluken is a member of the National Honor Society and several content-specific honor societies.

The guidance and influence of BCPS educators has propelled Muluken to become a self-motivated, determined, diligent, and conscientious student. In the last three years, Muluken has been fortunate to represent Chesapeake at the district level numerous times. He hopes to become a BCPS graduate who helps to create an ongoing culture of deliberate excellence at Chesapeake High School by continuing to raise the bar for rigor and academic achievement. After graduation, Muluken plans to attend a four-year university and earn his post-secondary degree. He hopes to pursue his vision of instituting a non-profit organization in Ethiopia to help the homeless in urban and rural areas, and to deal with inadequate healthcare. In addition, Muluken hopes to introduce equal access to K-12 education in poverty- stricken areas, and enhance renewable energy to contribute to environmental conservation in order to provide access to clean water. Ugonna Mbaekwe

Ugonna Mbaekwe is a senior at Parkville High School. Ugonna has been raised and cultured in the Nigerian heritage. Throughout her time in Baltimore County Public Schools, she has enjoyed the diversity of her peers and community. She credits her upbringing and interactions in her community with helping her transform from a shy and sheltered child to the expressive, outspoken and involved young woman she is today. From her middle school Princess and the Pea drama club days all the way to being the Senior Class President, she constantly pursues social outlets that are reflective of her diverse interests.

Ugonna loves to read and her taste ranges from classic literature to dystopian fiction for fun. She also volunteers whenever she can.

Ugonna is very proud of her accomplishments. In fifth grade, she was named a Ben Carson Scholar. She has also maintained straight A’s throughout her time in school. Another accomplishment of which Ugonna is most proud is meeting the President of the United States, Barack Obama, when he visited Parkville Middle to speak about his investment in education with a focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Ugonna had the privilege of representing her class and shared information about her class’ erosion project with Mr. Obama.

Ugonna has always had a natural aptitude for science, especially biochemistry. Her educational goal beyond the completion of her undergraduate degree is acceptance to a high-ranking medical graduate degree program. She wants to work toward a doctorate degree in the field of biochemistry or physiology. Career wise, she is leaning toward becoming a primary care physician or medical laboratory scientist.

Ugonna wants everyone to know that her time in Baltimore County Public Schools has helped her in providing the stepping-stones toward her bright future.

The stage art panel was designed by students from George Washington Carver Center for Arts and Technology.
