Aug. 5: Overnight flight to Athens. Aug. 6: After arrival in Athens, meet and greet with English speaking guide and check-in to Athens hotel for two night stay. Welcome dinner this evening. Athens has quite a reputation to live up to. Named for , of Wisdom, the city is credited with being the cradle of European civilization and birthplace of democracy. Ruins and relics of its glory days are scattered throughout the modern city, popping up where you least expect them. Its crowning glory is the Acropolis, perched atop a hillside, and covered in carved and columned temples of varying degrees of antiquity. Not quite so old is the Plaka, an appealing neighborhood for a stroll down cobblestone streets, past old mansions and a plethora of outdoor tavernas ideal for watching the world go by, while munching tasty Greek snacks. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner. (D) Aug. 7: Breakfast at hotel; Athens Sightseeing Tour: This tour gives you an opportunity to observe the striking contrasts that make Athens such a fascinating city. Our expert guides will take you to see the Panathenaic Stadium where the first of modern times were held in 1896 (short stop). Continue and pass by the Temple of Olympian , the Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, and Constitution Square (Syntagma). On the Acropolis visit the Architectural Masterpieces of the of Athens: The Propylaea, the Temple of Athena , the and finally “the harmony between material and spirit”, the monument that “puts order in the mind”, the . Continue and visit the place where at last the statues found their home and admire the wonders of the classical era: The new Acropolis museum. Your evening begins with a short panoramic drive through the City Center and at the slope of the sacred hill you will be able to see, admire and photo the illuminated Acropolis. Then a pleasant walk through the narrow picturesque streets of Plaka, the old city, will bring you at a Typical Greek Tavern where you will enjoy your dinner following a floor show with live music and Greek Folk Dances in traditional costumes. Aug. 8: After your breakfast, depart for your tour to Argolis, Delphi and Kalambaka. Leave by the coastal road to the Corinth Canal (short stop). Drive on and visit the Theatre of Epidaurus, famous for its remarkable acoustics. Drive on to Mycenae and visit the Archaeological Site and the Tomb of Agamemnon. Then proceed to the town of Nafplion. Overnight in Nafplion. (B,D)

Aug. 9: Breakfast at hotel; Departure for ancient Delphi. Today we visit the Delphi Archaeological site and the Museum. Delphi, the center of the ancient world - the “Omphalos” (Navel of Earth) – whose prestige extended far beyond the boundaries of the Hellenic World. Dinner and overnight in Delphi. (B,D)

Aug. 10: In the morning visit the Archaeological Site and the Museum of Delphi, the most famous of the ancient world. Depart for Kalambaka, a small town located at the foot of the astonishing complex of Meteora, gigantic rocks. Overnight in Kalambaka. (B,D)

Aug. 11: After your breakfast, visit the breathtaking monasteries of Meteora. Perched on huge granite rocks, the monasteries seem to suspend between earth and sky, providing a magnificent view. Each monastery contains priceless historical and religious treasures. Return to Athens via Trikala and . At Thermopylae, a stop will be made to visit the memorial of Leonidas and the brave 300 Spartans. Arrival in Athens early in the evening, check in to your hotel and overnight. (B)

Aug.12: Breakfast at hotel; morning at leisure; afternoon transfer to ship; sail at 9:00 pm. Or take a short boat ride to the sacred island of Delos – in mythology thought to be the birth- place of Zeus. The entire island is virtually an ‘open air’ archaeological museum. Half of this volcanic island was destroyed in an eruption 3,500 years ago. Take a cable car or donkey to the top of the island where charming towns with white- washed buildings cling to the edge of the caldera. Some believe it may be the fabled Atlantis. Your daydream of a Greek island meets reality in Santorini – its whitewashed villages cling to cliff sides, and bright blue roofs reflect the sea and sky. So beautiful is it, that you can almost believe the myths that claim it as the birthplace of gods. Born itself as a volcanic cone, the island blew its top in 1450 BC, its center sank, and it assumed its current crescent shape, outlined by three main islands. The capital, Fira, a pedestrian haven with narrow cobblestone lanes, is reachable only by cable car, donkey, or for the fit, a flight of 600 steps. An included tour will take you to the famous archeological site. Crete subsequently fell to the , Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Venetians, and Ottoman Turks. The islanders proclaimed their union with modern Greece in 1908. A glorious ancient city stands beside it with many treasures waiting for shoppers who love to bargain. Enjoy an included tour to ancient Ephesus. Explore this charming town and journey to the amazing ancient city of Ephesus, and walk in the footsteps of St. Paul.
