(Saturday, June 30, 2012) – Sam Hornish Jr. continued his string of rock-solid finishes in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He finished sixth in Friday night’s Feed the Children 300 at Kentucky Speedway. The driver of the No. 12 Wurth Dodge Challenger posted his eighth top-10 finish and third consecutive. He remains fourth in the series championship standings, 33 points behind leader Austin Dillon. “That’s the thing that you’ve got to do; you’ve got to be consistent,” Hornish said. “We need to keep being smart and doing the things that we’re doing. We’re chipping away at it. We’d love to do it all in about two races and be leading the points but it’s not going to happen that way. We just need to be smart about what we do.” Brad Keselowski overcame the loss of track position early in the race to finish seventh, his eighth top-10 finish in 11 starts this season. Keselowski was running third when he pitted during the first caution of the race on lap 26. The crew had an issue with the right-front during the stop plus receiving a penalty for pitting outside the pit box and a tire violation. Keselowski restarted 29th but was able to work his way back onto the top five by lap 130.

Hornish grabbed his third top five of the season and chopped 11 points off Elliott Sadler’s lead in the Nationwide Series championship standings. He now trails Sadler by 34 points entering next week’s event at Kentucky Speedway. Hornish led once in the race for three laps. The driver of the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Dodge said he had a simple strategy entering the weekend’s event at the 4.048-mile road course, a track known for chaotic racing. “We were just trying to be smart,” Hornish said. “My goal for the weekend was to make sure that we weren’t sitting in any sand traps. I’m really happy about that and to be able to pass some really good road racers there towards the end, I feel like it was pretty good. There were some guys running into each other on the last lap and I did everything I could do to try to stay out of that.” The strategy worked, despite the fact Hornish was involved in a rambunctious five-car battle for fourth-place in the closing laps featuring Max Papis, Danica Patrick, Brian Scott and his Penske Racing teammate for the weekend, Jacques Villeneuve.

The Land O’ Lakes, Florida, native’s passion for motorsports began when he started racing at age 5. As a kid, Scott raced anything he could, from three-wheelers to motorcycles to go-karts. As his racing career progressed at paved short tracks across Florida, Scott competed in a variety of racecars including, Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, open-wheel Modifieds and Late Models. After completing two years in the mechanical engineering program at the University of South Florida, Scott moved to North Carolina in 1998 and enrolled in the Bobby Isaac Motorsports Technology Program at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory. While he furthered his education, Scott transitioned from racing to working on the racecars of others. In 2003, Scott went to work for a NASCAR Truck Series team where he changed tires as a member of the pit crew in addition to serving as a mechanic. It was during this time Scott realized that in order to reach his career goals, he would need to return to school and complete his engineering degree. “Tire changing is what got me in the door at the first team I worked with,” Scott said. “I was eager to be involved in the setup part of the equation and help make decisions.

The arris Poll THE HARRIS POLL #17 Wednesday, March 17,1999 ALMOST HALF OF ALL ADULTS WATCH NASCAR RACES Dale Earnhardt, most popular NASCAR driver, followed by Jeff Gordon, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace and Richard Petty. by Humphrey Taylor NASCAR is a major spectator sport. Almost half (45%) of all American adults have watched a NASCAR race over the last year and, on average, these fans watched NASCAR events nine times. Their favorite driver is Dale Earnhardt, with Jeff Gordon in second place and Mark Martin third. Rusty Wallace and Richard Petty take the fourth and fifth places. These are some of the results of a nationwide Harris Poll of 1,007 adults surveyed between February 1 1 and 15,1999. Among the other interesting results: When asked what NASCAR is, only one in five adults (20%) replied correctly that it is stockcar racing or that it stands for the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing). However, an additional 46% know that it is a form of car racing, without mentioning stock cars. The others have either never heard of NASCAR (15%) or don't know what it is (19%).
