2011 VOLLEYBALL ‘11 LOUISIANA VOLLEYBALL 2011 season preview Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball 2011 Preview RETURNING STATISTICAL COMPARISON The trend upwards has been a work in progress for UL head coach Heather Mazeitis since arriving in 2008. It came to fruition in 2010 when the Cajuns captured their first winning season in a decade and reached the Sun Belt Conference Tournament for the first time since 2002. The Cajuns finished the season 17-16, notching an impressive 10-2 mark at the friendly confines of Earl K. Long Gym. The home record was the best for any Cajuns Lesley Mirarchi volleyball squad since 1988. The expectation of steady improvement is the same for the 2011 Ragin’ Cajuns. KILLS The loss of all-time digs leader Lindsay Brown and offensive star Caroline Dufrene will Player S K K/Set require some veterans to transition into the leadership role. Last Taylor Meade 122 259 2.12 season, Mirarchi threw down 364 kills and stuffed a team-leading 106.0 blocks. Joining Mirarchi in the leadership role is junior setter Mandi Gavin. Last season, Kerrilyn Lazare 121 248 2.05 Gavin ranked fourth in the Sun Belt with 9.54 assists per game becoming the first UL setter to clip the 1,000 assists plateau since 2007. The versatility of sophomore Taylor Meade will help the Cajuns after she notched 259 kills and scooped 312 digs in her rookie campaign. Meade led the Sun Belt with 49 service aces. The Cajuns will expect contributions from Kerrilyn Lazare, Blair Claypoole and Tonice White to help continue the offensive success from 2010. Providing the defensive depth for UL will be sophomores Kristen Armstrong and Lavinia Tataran. Louisiana welcomes seven newcomers for 2011. Caitlin Auxilien (defensive MANDI GAVIN specialist) and Andrea Hole (setter) will provide depth for those positions. A freshmen quartet of outside hitters including Emily Klein, Kaylee Nemeth, Kelly Weismann and ASSISTS Lafayette native Mayme Cook will compete for a spot in the outside hitter role. Season as Head Coach The steady rise to the top has continued every year since head coach Heather Fourth Mazeitis arrived at the University of Louisiana in January 2008. Mazeitis’ first campaign saw the squad double its win total from the previous Date Hired season. In 2009, the Cajuns recorded their best win total since 2002. Haruguchi received his bachelor’s degree from Colorado State in 1996 and was a member of the men’s club volleyball team from 1992- 1996. He also was a volunteer assistant with CSU during the spring of 14 2000. He received his master’s degree from the University of Hawaii in 2003.
