Swimming daily in the James E. Martin Aquatic Center, a facility that has hosted SEC Championships, NCAA Champion- Ava Ohlgren ships and the U.S. Open, the Tigers have the advantage of training in one of the 200 IM 400 IM Entered the Program Entered the Program finest aquatic facilities in the country. The recent Auburn graduate from Roanoke, Va., is attending Oxford Univer- sity and plans to earn his graduate degree in global health systems. Anderson was also named the 2010 McWhorter SEC Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. 40 Forty swimming & diving student- athletes were honored at the AUSPY Awards for posting a GPA of 3.0 or higher Erica Meissner and Dan Mazzaferro were named the 2011 H. Boyd McWhorter SEC Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Mazzaferro received the Cliff Hare Award and Meissner was awarded the Leah Rawls 41 Atkins Award, the highest two honors afforded Auburn student- Forty-one Tigers were athletes. In addition, Meissner was a Rhodes Scholarship finalist in named to the SEC 2010 and Mazzaferro was a finalist in 2011. Academic Honor Roll in 2010-11 6 ACADEMICS Charlotte G. Lowder Student Athlete Development Center The Charlotte G. Lowder Student Athlete Develop- ment Center, with 33,000 square feet of dedicated space to students and learning, gives Auburn University the physical infrastructure that allows the ability to implement and expand the array of programs designed to enhance the academic performance of Auburn student-athletes. Located adjacent to the Auburn Athletic Complex, the facil- ity is centrally located for easy access for all Tiger athletic teams. The goals of the Charlotte G. Lowder Student Ath- lete Development Center are to create an opportu- nity for one-stop learning for all services including academic counseling, life skills, and tutorial ser- vices; to utilize the technology available to support academic missions; and to create a showplace that honors achievements of student-athletes. In addi- tion, programs are designed to develop leadership skills and a strong altruistic attitude, which are fun- damental characteristics of the Auburn graduate. Within the walls of the center are the Academic Hall of Honor designed by Auburn student-athletes, two “smart” classrooms with new and innovative technology that hold 50 people per room, seven counselor offices as well as administrative support, the PAW (Promoting Academic Winners) office, Operation Follow-Through, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee office, 40 four-person tutorial Erica Meissner (top) and Andrew Mitchell (bot- rooms, a library resource area, a soft-study lounge, tom) were both honored by the SEC and Auburn, a 25-station computer classroom, the student “Cantina” for snacks and beverages and the tutor being placed on the SEC Academic Honor Roll coordinator office. and named Top Tigers for their efforts in the in the classroom. The construction of the Student Athlete Develop- ment Center was made possible by the generos- ity of Robert and Charlotte Lowder and from the Lowder Family Foundation. Student-Athlete Sup- port Services The Tiger CHAMPS/Life Skills program focuses on five commitments that the NCAA has speci- fied as necessary to a holistic approach to student development programming.
