Spring 2019 HAPPY NEW YEAR! Lower KS2 Newsletter Spring 2019 HAPPY NEW YEAR! We hope you have had a fabulous Christmas break, it has been lovely see the children’s excitement as they have reflected on last year and have begun thinking about setting some targets and New Year resolutions for the coming year and we seem to have all started the year positively—Well done! We are continuing to have high expectations and we are sure that your children will work hard and bring bags of enthusiasm in order to fulfil their potential. Thank you for your continuing support. Mr Orr (Year 3), Miss Van Mechelen (Year 3/4) and Mr Saban (Year 4) SPELLINGS READING AT HOME Every Monday the children will be sent home with up to 15 Your support with the children’s reading at home is words that they need to learn how to spell. Please send your child in with an appropriate PE every week. The children will be investigating the effect of forces such as fiction and gravity on a range of objects. Also children will be learning about what a light source is and how shadows are made.     Six Spectacular Sessions Schools can choose from a morning or an afternoon session; each session lasts 90 minutes. Sessions take place at 10.00am to 11.30am or 12.30pm to 2.00pm. We offer a choice of six sessions designed to fit in with the Primary Framework for literacy and the Secondary National Strategy. All sessions include an introductory talk about Roald Dahl and his writing hut, followed by time in the Museum to explore the galleries. The sessions are rounded off with a workshop. Details of the workshops are listed below together with the suggested age range. Wordplay by Dahl’s Chickens (or is it Charles Dickens?) Pupils will look at the ways Roald Dahl played with rhyme and humour and created his own Gobblefunk language. They will make up their own nonsensical vocabulary using examples from Roald Dahl's works as inspiration. Suitable for Years 3 to 6 (children aged 7 to 11) Crocky-Wock's Creative Characters Pupils will discover where Roald Dahl found inspiration for his wonderful characters.
