Thank you for your ongoing commitment, investment and engagement in support of World Scouting. Lars Kolind Chairman, World Scout Foundation Honorary Chairman “We don’t ask you for money; we ask for an investment and a commitment to make a change, whether in Mexico or elsewhere. Through a partnership like this, the Scouts at grassroots level learn from your expertise and passion, which can be shared with other Scout groups in the country and region, multiplying the impact you assisted in creating for years to come. The Scouts also combine forces with other agencies and actors addressing the issues, deliberately fostering relationships at local level, empowering communities with a good idea to make the difference they want to see. You help young people to change the world!” HM King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden Excerpt from His Majesty’s closing address at the BP Fellowship Dinner in Mexico City, March 2018 1 Table of Contents New Baden-Powell Fellows 2018 page 3 2018 Investors’ list page 5 The World Baden-Powell Fellowship page 9 The Honours Programme • The Benefactor Circle page 25 • The International Circle page 26 • The Chairman Circle page 27 • The Ambassador Circle page 29 • The Regal Circle page 29 • The Baden-Powell Circle page 29 The Founder’s Heritage Programme page 31 In Memoriam page 33 2 They joined us in 2018 BRAZIL (1) Mr Manuel Baldauff Mr Julius Kramer Mr Kevin Ken Oyama Ms Nora Dupont SWITZERLAND (2) COLOMBIA (1) Mr Philippe Dupont Mr Matthew James May Mr Camilo “Pitu” Ayala Herrera Mrs Colette Flesch Mrs Kathi Von Koerber Mr Robert Goeres DENMARK(1) Mr Guy Harles THAILAND (1) Mr Torsten Kolind Mr Claude Kremer Mr Pansak Ransibrahmanakul ECUADOR (2) Mr Roland Kuhn UNITED KINGDOM (2) Ms Barbara Palacios Mrs Isabelle Lentz Mr John Michael Davis Mr Nicolás Zapata Mr Reginald Neuman Mr Michael Roy Thurston Mr Jacques Sam Reckinger EL SALVADOR (1) UNITED STATES OF AMERICA (12) Mr Jean-Claude Schmitz Mrs Cynthia Jacqueline Marquez Cardoza Mr Armando A. • The Making of the Poetic Subject in Vasyl Stus's
‘A FRAGMENT OF WHOLENESS’: THE MAKING OF THE POETIC SUBJECT IN VASYL STUS’S PALIMPSESTS Bohdan Tokarskyi St John’s College University of Cambridge The dissertation is submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy June 2019 PREFACE This dissertation is the result of my own work and includes nothing which is the outcome of work done in collaboration. It is not substantially the same as any that I have submitted, or, is being concurrently submitted for a degree or diploma or other qualification at the University of Cambridge or any other University or similar institution. I further state that no substantial part of my dissertation has already been submitted, or, is being concurrently submitted for any such degree, diploma or other qualification at the University of Cambridge or any other University or similar institution. It does not exceed the prescribed word limit of 80,000 words. ii ABSTRACT Bohdan Tokarskyi ‘A Fragment of Wholeness’: The Making of the Poetic Subject in Vasyl Stus’s Palimpsests My PhD thesis investigates the exploration of the self and the innovative poetical language in the works of the Ukrainian dissident poet and Gulag prisoner Vasyl Stus (1938-1985). Focusing on Stus’s magnum opus collection Palimpsests (1971-1979), where the poet casts the inhuman conditions of his incarceration to the periphery and instead engages in radical introspection, I show how Stus’s poetry foregrounds the very making of the subject as the constant pursuit of the authentic self. Through my examination of unpublished archival materials, analysis of Stus’s underexplored poems, and the contextualisation of the poet’s works within the tradition of the philosophy of becoming, I propose a new reading of Palimpsests, one that redirects scholarly attention from the historical and political to the psychological and philosophical.

  • Ukraine's Quest for Mature Nation Statehood a Roundtable
Ukraine’s Quest For Mature Nation Statehood A Roundtable CONFERENCE BACKGROUND he genesis of the “Ukraine1s Quest for Mature Nation Statehood: A Roundtable” series Ttook place in April 2000, when a number of Ukrainian/American organizations convened to consider ways to support the 'dialogue' that was unfolding between the U.S. and Ukraine. These deliberations gave rise to a com- mitment: to convene a conference that would bring together prominent representatives from academia and the gov- ernments of Ukraine and the United States to assess Ukraine's prospects for accelerated integration into the Euro Atlantic Community and stronger bilateral relations. To help fulfill the commitment, four key sources were tapped. The Ukrainian Congressional Caucus and the Ukrainian Embassy were asked to garner political support in the U.S. and in Ukraine, respectively. Major American universities, think tanks, and NGOs were invited to lend their good names and to supply important contacts. Major American and Ukrainian-American financial and commercial institutions were invited to provide the necessary financial wherewithal. In September 2000, these efforts culminated in a singular event held at the Library of Congress and at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C. The two-day conference featured 84 speakers representing the most prestigious members of America1s and Ukraine1s representatives in the foreign policy field. Major seg- ments of the conference were web-cast live worldwide; the entire conference was video taped by the U.S. Department of State for subsequent airing at various venues. A complete transcript of the proceedings was pro- duced for purposes of publishing a monograph in both the English and Ukrainian languages.
