XV PARALYMPIC GAMES La Squadra Italiana The Italian Paralympic Team La Squadra Italiana The Italian Paralympic Team henever I get the first draft of the Italian team brochure, I realize that the wonderful, exciting adventure, waited for Wso long, is round the corner. By turning its pages I can revisit every day of these sixteen years spent leading the Paralympic movement. They have been marked by milestones represented by each edition of the Paralympic Games, the greatest event which we never get used to. Every time I observe the photos of every single discipline and advance hypotheses of medal, I feel a pure adrena - line rush, not considering the thrill of imagining to wear the Maglia Azzurra, twenty years after my last race. In these photos seems to be even more beautiful than ever. Rio de Janeiro is the goal achieved by each of you, the stage, as I like to say, where every athlete wants to play. This time, however, it will have an even greater value, because in four years, those passed from London 2012, we have strengthened, in other fields as well, those results reached in Britain, thanks to the recent recog - nition as a public institution, whose formalization process is now close to the end. For this reason Rio gets a particular meaning for us, compared to London 2012. We represent a piece of welfare of our country and our daily work has brought a strong cultural value. We want to assert and defend a right, the one of equal opportunities, which is inalienable, but we want even more to make people aware of the fact that disability has become, at least in sport, a resource for our country.
