CENTRAL GROUND WATER BOARD MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT AND GANGA REJUVINATION GOVERNMENT OF INDIA GROUND WATER YEAR BOOK OF HARYANA STATE (2015-2016) North Western Region Chandigarh) September 2016 1 CENTRAL GROUND WATER BOARD MINISTRY OF WATER RESOURCES, RIVER DEVELOPMENT AND GANGA REJUVINATION GOVERNMENT OF INDIA GROUND WATER YEAR BOOK OF HARYANA STATE 2015-2016 Principal Contributors GROUND WATER DYNAMICS: M. L. Angurala, Scientist- ‘D’ GROUND WATER QUALITY Balinder. P. Singh, Scientist- ‘D’ North Western Region Chandigarh September 2016 2 FOREWORD Central Ground Water Board has been monitoring ground water levels and ground water quality of the country since 1968 to depict the spatial and temporal variation of ground water regime. The changes in water levels and quality are result of the development pattern of the ground water resources for irrigation and drinking water needs. Analyses of water level fluctuations are aimed at observing seasonal, annual and decadal variations. Therefore, the accurate monitoring of the ground water levels and its quality both in time and space are the main pre-requisites for assessment, scientific development and planning of this vital resource. Central Ground Water Board, North Western Region, Chandigarh has established Ground Water Observation Wells (GWOW) in Haryana State for monitoring the water levels. As on 31.03.2015, there were 964 Ground Water Observation Wells which included 481 dug wells and 488 piezometers for monitoring phreatic and deeper aquifers. In order to strengthen the ground water monitoring mechanism for better insight into ground water development scenario, additional ground water observation wells were established and integrated with ground water monitoring database.

Since its bifurcation from Punjab in 1966, the state of Haryana has been playing a part in the growth of the country. Apart from being the economic hub, the state has also been a center for different cultures. Haryana is a state with strong cultural convictions embedded deeply in the psyche of its society. People observe strict adherence to their rituals and traditions. Disregard to these customs is not tolerated. Haryana is not only known for its strong economy, diversity of culture and tradition but also for its concept of thirty-six biradaris. Jat, Rajpoot, Gujjar, Saini, Pasi, Ahir, Rod, Mev, Vishnoi and Harijan, etc. are some of the prominent biradaris of them. Strict endogamy is a social norm in the state though there is a significant change in the outlook of the people due to education. Haryana was carved out of Punjab by the Constitution Seventh Amendment Act on Sept 18; 1966.The Parliament decided its boundaries. There are twenty-two districts in the state which are as following: Gurgaon (now Gurugram), Faridabad, Ambala, Rohtak, Mahendragarh, Hisar, Sirsa, Karnal, Jind, Bhivani, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Jhajjar, Rewari, Fatehabad, Kaithal, Yamuna Nagar, Panchkula, Palwal, Mewat and Charkhi-Dadari.

  • Invasions of India from Central Asia
INVASIONS OF INDIA FROM CENTRAL ASIA, LONDON: RICHARD BENTLEY AND SON, 1879. Reproduced By Sani H. Panhwar California 2014 PREFACE. To understand the history and present position of India, it is absolutely necessary to have some acquaintance with the history of Central Asia. For from Central Asia (known as Scythia, Tartary, or Turkestan in past times) India has always been ruled in historic, and presumably in prehistoric, times. Some have supposed Bactria, or Balkh, to have been the site of the Garden of Eden. In long past ages, the Aryans are thought to have held an extensive empire in the mountains of the Hindoo Kush. From thence they invaded India, and their descendants form the military, sacerdotal, and mercantile class of Hindoos in India to this day. The Brahmin, the Rajpoot, and the Buniah are the descendants of Aryans of Bactria. The lower castes and the servile class are the descendants of the people they subdued. But the Aryan masters of India in their -turn were subdued from Central Asia in historic times. They were conquered by the race that we call Tartars. The fierce and rude soldiers of Turkestan have ruled India for the last eight hundred years, since A.D. 1002. Alexander the Great conquered India in 324 B.C. He followed the road which so many Tartar invaders have since taken—through Persia, Kandahar, and Ghuzne, through Afghanistan to the Indus. But the Greek invasion was a mere passing inroad, and left little mark on the people of India. This is the first historical invasion of India recorded.
